The run was at Juhan on trails. During my first 5 mile loop I was thinking about all my recent long courses and how I have struggled on them. I think I struggle on them because the advertised climb is over 5% or near it. The long i'm talking about are US Ultralong in Cali, Jwoc long and US trials long from New York. From the beginning of the race I start scared of the climb looking for routes trying to avoid climb and use my legs. I end up often choosing bad much longer routes with about the same climb instead of my more typical better nearly straight routes. I had the idea of trying to do a course with an insane amount of climb like 15% or 1k climb to break my mind of this recent habit. Then I could just think go straight you have done a course with harder climb before. This got me happy so I started running faster and finished the first loop in 33:51 much better then my normal long run start of about 35:50ish. Then I decided to go faster so I stared speeding up and finished the second loop in 31:08 which is like a 40 or 50 second pr for the 5 mile loop. The long run went fantastic

So I had one hour to complete my workout before I had to leave the track for work. I met Austin just before practice cause he was doing makeup work and I had a sci Olympiad meeting. I kept trying to get Austin to hurry up but he wanted to sit threw everyones event assignments before we started our warmup. I even cut the rests between tempo and 400s very short Even staying 10 min past that hour and due to several other things I was an 800 short of finishing the workout. Why do I stay so busy

Note

The arizona training camp was amazing. I went in not that confident after not having great races at my last few a meets. Now after the training camp I look foward even more to the my next a-meet the flying pig and europe with much more confidense in my orienteering skills.
On friday night after 4 days of school I flew out to phenix with austin. We ate five guys and were plenty early for our flight. My seat on the plane was fantastic. I sat just over the wing at the window with an empty seat next to me. The flight was pretty long and realativly boring. After the flight I started texting becky and ethan and we met them at the pickup place. Becky drove us to the hotel and we had a secound dinner of sandwhiches. Then we watched some cartoon and went to bed
Saterday mornining Austin Ethan and I woke up to the text that addie was exhausted and we were gonna get to sleep a little longer. After about twenty minutes we were told to get up so we did and went to breakfast. After a nice breakfast and meeting Addie we qucikly packed and headed south to Tucson. After stopping at Starbucks and an hour and a bit drive we arrived at the park where we saw michael and addison finished a training exercise and about to go out on a regular course. Erin had Etahn Austin and I throw on gaiter and shoes before we did that exersize witch was involved one person navigating on a blanck map except for controls while the outher two people had full maps to keep track and correct for mistakes. Once we finished that I was parched and my mout felt dry from the hottest temperature of the training camp of 90 degrees and the low humitity. i drank some and headed out first on the green course. It went well at first but turned worse at the secound control where i was crossing a large spur too low and had to stop to take out a thorn in my foot that was excrutiating. Then austin caught me at the secound control and we stayed together for the rest of the course. Ethan caught us about the 5th coontrol. Since it was so hot and everyone was parched an ajusting to the temperature no one could really break away from the outhers. I finished in 43 min or about 10 min a control. Matej was first with 34, Ethan 36ish, Michael and Eero in 39 within 3 sec of each other, Austin 41. I felt dissapointed in comparrison but i was happy i made mistakes and could learn from them. After the course we had lunch and rested for a little while before the next exersize. This exercise was a relocation one which involved one runner running with a map some where kinda towards the control and the the others watching the features. Then the group relocates and trys to find the control. Our group did fantastic except for getting attacked by cactuses after the first control. Once we finished the exercise we recovered and rested before a team competition to pick up controls. There were 13 controls for each team and then 5 controls shared by the teams. I was assigned the same shared control as Eero. we raced out of the parking lot and i was i front. Then Eero past me kinda in the woods. He followed the spur and the trail but i kept my head up and saw the control first while Eero followed the trail. I ended up getting to it tired but happy. I then walked / jogged to my other two controls and was the first person back. I ended up being the only person on my team to get to a shared control whcih left me proud but dissapointed. Then we left for dinner which was at a mexican resraunt called something like Indian Planter. I sat at the end of a large table with Austin, Izzy and Ethan. Duriing dinner I think addison asked Erin if he was engaged because Austin and Izzy had started a rumer a few weeks ago that he was. Erin reaction as hilarious. After a long wait we had dinner and i ate my plate and then most of Izzy plate. I was now full and proud id eaten so much. We then left for the hotel which looked nice. After checking in and finally getting a room. I raced to join everyone else who had already had rooms at the pool and hottub. We swam a little in the pool and then talked in the hottub. People would go back and forth between the hottub and pool. During the pool outing ethan Austin and my room was changed. I was sent to join Eero, Erins and Matej room. I showered and then went to talk to people again before bed. It was a good start to the training camp

worked on making courses for alexander park on plane

Note

Sunday morning started early with getting up at 7:15. Everyone met downstairs in the lobby at 7:30 to head toward agility. We walked to an empty parking lot where erin had set up agility courses. To begin agility we went to a neerby feild and did a five min warm up. In the bright sunlight I though a cactus was a tree so i tried to brush it off and got stuck in the shoulder with a cactus ball. A couple people stopped and helped me remove it from my shoulder with two rocks. After finishing the cool down we did exercises involving a ladder and mini hurtles. Then we went threw several cone exercises to work on quck feet and agility. With agility finished we all headed to the hotel for breakfast. I grabbed some cerel, part of a waffel, sasage and eggs. Due to having so many people eating at once there was no room for everyone to eat inside so all the Juniors went outside to sit in the nice clean grass. Once breakfast was finished we had some time to relax before meeting at 9 to go to the training for the day. I was still in the car with Austin, Becky, Ethan and Addie. We went to the same park as the day before. To start the orienteering training for the day erin put us in groups of two to do a contour training exercise. I was paired up with michael. It went pretty smoothly through about control 4 which was furthur away and in a much less distict reentrant. I think all the groups missed the control and wandered around the point. Erin was at the pin flag calling people over and stealing their compasses so they were more reliant on contours then compass. Michael and I then ran the rest of the course cleanly and were the first or secound group back. Once everyone got back erin started sending everyone out on the faster course for the day red for boys which was 6k and green for the girls. My course started out very clean and very fast through to point 5. Then control 6 was a very very long control with difficult route choice. i took a bad route and got dissorented in the middle of the route so i was very slow at 22 min. Michael and matej did it in about 13 or 14. Once I finished the long leg Metej was right behind me. So that I didn’t end up following him I decided to take a different route choice. I went a slightly longer way left around a small hill while matej went right. But for some reason maybe I ran faster but I met Matej at the other end of the hill. After we met Matej ran off ahead of me cause he was moving at a faster rate. I saw him ahead of me but was exhausted from my long leg and lost him. I finished the course cleanly. In the end Michael and Eero won the course in about 44, Matej finished in 45, Ethan in 46, Me in 55ish, Austin 56 and Addison like 58 I think. After the course everyone was just discussing the long leg on the course. We had lunch and tried to recover from the heat. After a longer break we had two shorter exercises, one simplification one and another memory o exercise. Matej and Ethan made a bet with Erin that if they could memorize the whole course and collect all the flags to prove it. I finished both courses really fast and got a nice break before the next exercises. Of course Ethan and Matej completed the course easily without and mess-ups. A few other people even tried to memorize the whole course. But the next exercise was a 2 person sprint relay. Erin paired everyone up and my partner was Katrina. We could not decide who to go first so I just went first. The event started out really fast with Michael running really fast on my course and Austin and ethan on the other one. I kept my eyes on Michael but could not keep up. I managed to stay in contact with the map but was about 40 sec after the others at the finish. The course was really fun and Austin and anna ended up winning with relay. Once the relay was finished we had to pick up controls. We had another competition but this time my team won the whole thing with Michael stealing the other team water and eero and me racing anna to two pin flags. Matej was greedy and managed to get two huge bonus controls. It was awesome. We then started heading back to the hotel so they decided to eat in the hotel and have bosten market. After showering everyone sat down and quickly chowed threw the food. They even decided to pickup 3 more pizza to fill us up. After that we decided to watch How to Tame A Dragon because Ethan says your not human if you have not seen it.
