9Round 32:00 [4]

Lots of squats today, but otherwise not too bad for a Brian day. I talked with Angela about my HRM, and she reset it. It will be interesting to see how it does on Monday.

Dog Walking 22:00 [3] 1.4 mi (15:43 / mi)
shoes: Skechers GoRunS

Took the ElRay out for a walk/run at Riverside Park after 9Round and recycling. She is doing well with learning commands "walk" and "run". We may try the dog run in September for my training.

9Round 31:30 [4]

This was a Burpee day. I hate Burpees. We did Burpees between all rounds, and several of the rounds included Burpees also.

My shoulders are really sore, especially the right shoulder. I think that this may be from vigorous weeding up in the raspberries. So I weeded again today for another hour and a half. It's about 2/3 done.

9Round 32:30 [4]

Felt good, except for some leg soreness, but had some bad coughing spells while working out. I ran out of my asthma meds on Monday, and called in the refill, but they were still waiting for the order yesterday.

I talked with Hannah about my HRM, and she told me to get my resting heart rate before I get up in the morning and they will reset.

Dog Walking 28:00 [3]

Took ElRay over to Jesse James Park and we did the circuit. I ran some, and we did lots of sniffing and rolling around in the grass. She seems to do well with understanding the command "run".

Then I got home and did another hour and a half with serious weeding in the raspberries. This afternoon is quiet time.

9Round 32:00 [4]

I think my HRM went goofy yesterday. I was working hard, sweating a lot, and my HR briefly went up to 73%. Most of the time it hovered in the 50-70 range. I know I was working harder than that. I couldn't beat yesterday's challenge with the deep squats, but I did better the plank wall touch and got 144 in 3 minutes.

Workout 1:00:00 [4]

Worked out with Jared after having two weeks off for vacation. We worked on sprinting with agility drills, then alternated upper and lower body. My legs (all over, but worst in the quadriceps) have been really sore all day. Hope they improve by morning.

9Round 31:30 [4]

Today was pretty intense. I was jumping rope on the first round when my heart rate hit 100% which caused the trainers to come over to see if I was ok. It went right down, but I hope this doesn't cause it to reset me to a younger age again. It took off 20 years last time, and any younger would be ridiculous.

We had two challenges today. At station 3 we had to do a deep squat (touch the butt to a Bosu trainer) then come up and do a jab, cross, hook, hook, and keep repeating for 3 minutes. I managed 42. Then at station 9, we had to stay in plank position, and alternate hands touching the wall. I made 140, but was surely glad when it was over.

Yesterday I went to the allergist for my shot right after 9Round. I have to breathe out into this gizmo, and if it's under 250 (cc's?) I can't have the shot. That's only happened once, and usually I get between 280 and 300. But yesterday I made 320. Must have been the altitude.

Intervals 22:00 [5] 3.0 km (7:20 / km)
shoes: Skechers GoRunS

Since I now need to work on going faster since my navigation has improved, I did the interval thing down the driveway. Sprint down, walk back, repeat 6 trips per kilometer. So today I did 18. I haven't done this for a while, but need to try to get it in about once a week.

9Round 32:00 [4]

Having not done 9Round for two weeks, I expected today to be hot and sweaty, and it was. It felt like intensity 5, but was really a 4.

Orienteering race 1:14:41 [4] *** 4.5 km (16:36 / km)
spiked:7/10c shoes: Skechers GoRunS

The terrain at the Round Mountain part of the map was even less distinctive than day 1. Lots of rocks and boulders like Day 1, but even less topographic detail. Going from 6 to 7 was my biggest mistake. This area had lots of campers, OHV's, and trails. I was following my bearing when I hit a group camping, and changed gears to walk around them. Then I got confused with all the trails, and had to relocate. I must have lost focus a little near the end, because I did a very sloppy job going from 9 to 10. But I did finish this course 4 minutes faster than yesterday, and it was 0.2 km longer.

Overall, I was happy with my performance. Only one major mistake each day, and I remedied them fairly well. Including both days, with difficult terrain, it was a good effort for me, and I really have more confidence in being able to orienteer. There was also quite a bit of competition for the 70+ age group.

Now I'm fired up to start running again, and get faster. More training!
