Bump around Maybury and local areas with ccmarie and byrnedfish. Gotta get there more often. Classic me, we were at a dead stop doing something or another and I fell over and my knee hurt so bad!

Syd's bday map.

15# pack.

Feet didn't get wet. :) Forgot my glasses.

Did a little warmup. Then out on the map. I think the #2 streamer is missing. (now I know it wasn't I was off) Then on to 3, and wondered if I was tracking the trail correctly so I went back. Then to 3, which I hit way too far north, and again scale wasn't sure if the reentrant was supposed to be that flat. Then, reattacked and got it. On to 4, straight bearing looking for the clue. I moved myself a bit too far west. Then to 5 which worked out, then 6 and 7 OK. Took the trail to 8 and went up the RE to the west and over the spur. To 9 used the white woods over to the trail. I had no idea what the terrain would indicate so had a very slow approach. Then, went in reverse to the odd# controls. Overshot the attack to 7. 5, then 3 then out.

Thank you byrnedfish!

Silver Lake Red Course. Sigh. I totally tanked the first 3 controls, and just about gave up. But pressed on and things got better. I don't hve any explanation other than I could not get the map to match the terrain to 1, then going to 2 I don't know what I was thinking and then to 3 I found myself waaaaay west. I had to tell myself to get it together! Once I knew where I was I made my way slowly to 3, then 4, and bobbled 5 a bit and actually considered crossing the swamp -- but my brain pushed to the trail, and so I went on the trail and felt like I had a bit of a better flow from 6 on.

Goign to 7 I had a parallel error, I went right past 9 (gr), totally used the swamp to get to the spur for 10, crossed the spur and swap for 11 (little tricky in there) then trail 12. Off to 13 almost got distracted by the pretty spur. I had to stop and think about 14. Then said nope hit the trail to the T to the depression to the reentrant. 15 and 16 were fine but slow so I could stay in contact with the map...then 17 and back. Better, but gosh I got to 4 at 1:10...Gah. one of these days it will come together. Keeping the faith but want to practice more.

Runnable woods? Sigh. We need to talk.
