Adventure Race race 9:55:40 51.28 mi (11:37 / mi) +908m11:01 / mi ahr:136 max:170
MAR 10 Hour Epic with arthurd (and often Tizoc and Mr Wonderful). 1st female team, 6th out of 77 teams. Not bad for the old ladies. Went into the race not sure how it would all work out in that we have briefly met once, and we are doing a race together and guessed she liked to go at a pace. The format was O, bike, ferry to O, paddle, bike and final O. We wanted to be sure we didn't miss cutoffs.
Arthurdf is a great navigator, holy smokes. We had to reattack 4, but we kept moving. She seemed impressed with my leaf sledding to get down to points. I aim to please.
We got on bikes, and it worked that I did the pull out to the ferry. Then we ferried across Hamlin to the next O. Arthurd was awesome. We got through that part, still running in parts but I was starting to get warm and even had some franken legs for a bit but took a bunch of ecaps and kept going. Got to the paddle, and arthurd was in the stern. It was tricky, but we got through. We did take a turn too fast and dumped, but took care of it in minutes. We never did find the channel to check point 21, and kept going thinking we would be better off using our time on the final O. The wind off the lake was something else.
Got back on our bikes and was glad we had about the same speed back to the final TA and O. We skipped one of the bikes points, again, in favor of the final O. So pretty out there. Came back to the finish, and thought maybe 1st female. We went to pick up the canoe, got back to an empty shelter, talked to the RD and found out we got 6th. Wow.
So much fun. Race with her ANYTIME. Read her write up. It will be much more creative, and maybe a mention of the AR superhero we came up with, Captain Magnetic North. Female, of course. :)
Hate that hr spike weirdness. At one point the treadmill just turned off! Strange. Got on another. Saved myself from the squeaks by watching the movie Tracks. It's a great adventure story.
