Paddling activity 57:30 [2] 4.22 mi (13:38 / mi) +20m 13:26 / mi

In Pirate Canoe II. Bought my own single blade, there is an awesome canoe couple in East Lansing, and they offered to give tips as well. It was like eye candy being at this guys place, kayaks and race boats (c2s, amateurs, a wenonah olympic kayak) everywhere. And, he said for a long distance, twisty, turny river paddle (I dared not ask what long distance meant to him!!) single blade is better. But for a spring on open water, kayak paddles. So, game on with the comparison Mr. Dubs.

Mountain Bike 50:07 [2] 10.74 mi (4:40 / mi) +101m 4:32 / mi

Turned on my watch late, and turned it off after I endo'd on an easy easy piece of single track connector. Grr Grr Grr. Turned off the watch because I really thought I would have to have a rescue, could barely walk...but rallied and slowly made it back to my car at the launch. Handle bars got caught on a sapling and I flipped and landed on my back. Did nothing the rest of the day, and feels better, can do a variety of things with little pain, but taking no chances at this point. I am a little mad at myself because I planned to skip the connector, but thought it would be fun. Oh well with the woulda, shoulda, couldas...

Paddling activity 2:12:14 [2] 6.37 mi (20:45 / mi)

Went out for a spin with old school Rick Waldo. This guys has paddled EVERYWHERE. He is one awesome dude. We started in the lake behind his house and I mentioned that I was game for anything, and he took me seriously! Went through some of the tightest, twistiest parts of the Huron I have ever seen, and under culverts that most likely have not seen human activity for some time! Cobwebs, snakes, muskrats, frogs and fish galore. We even stopped a couple of times to take down dams that Rick has reported to the DNR, and he took pictures and such things. It reminded me of Funderstorms' microadventures. Lots of fun.

First O meet of the season, yay! Did the Red Course.

#1 Used some trails, some terrain.
#2 Again, some trails, some terrain.
#3 Went to the south to get the main trail. There was someone cruising around me making some remarks about the map. Then, he asked what map I was on, and turned out he was on another map, so I showed him where he was and where to go for his next control and sent him on his way.
#4 Pretty straight shot, and after having the mini lesson with Jens this afternoon I am seeing where I could take advantage of flats.
#5 Ooo tricky. Landed n the wrong reentrant.
#6 Made my way around the marsh and was super, super careful because this area nailed me last weekend. Yay for progress in contours.
#7 Met up with Ed Nicholson here, and he was totally turned around...got him on the right way, which is a bit of bummer cause he's fast. But, kindness abounds. Went to church for the first time since spring and as a Presbyterian was reminded to be our best with our brethren....or else.
#8 Was trying to get around that green, which was bumpy. Landed on the trail a tad north and went in.
#9 Got to the trail and went up the spur a bit until it seemed the reentrant was better.
#10 Orienteering 101. When you drop your map, make sure you are looking at it the right way. And, be sure that a 180 isn't in the offing. Grrr...thought I was totally lost, and then realized if i did a true 180 then I could just go the other direction. Worked out some. Had to really string together features.
#11 Liked the trail run and bore off the edge of rough to the west of the trail.
#12 Attacked from the north of the swamp thinking it was flatter but got sucked too far south.
#13 Sloppy, sloppy. I pulled to the east and realized I was in the rough, went over the trails to the attack, and was still too far north. Scratched my head on the control description, and then realized where I needed to be.
F...took the road...
