Woo, this was different. I plan to add this to my weekly regimen. Said I did pretty well for my first time. I can see how this will build biking strength!

Addressing fear AGAIN on my $100 kit from Play it Again Sports 3 years ago. I fear skiing especially hills and how slow I am. Here I go again! I snow plowed down the first big hill. But I kept going down to the southern loop. That is where I felt like I was having fun. There weren't a lot of tracks, and struck out on areas with no tracks and liked that best. I think it was because it didn't require a lot of technique and plowing I could feel my HR elevate some. Glad I went. I need to figure out going downhill, and how to elevate HR. Youtube, here I come.

I call this the Carpe Diem ride. I was hemming and hawing about going with a group of women on a snowy rail trail ride at night. Would I slow them down? Would I fall a lot? Would I not want to ride with them because of embarrassment? Would I fail? I cancelled.
Dammit carpe diem. So I set about getting my 29er ready. Front tire had a hole in it that couldn't be patched, and I needed to get the knobbies on it. So I went for another tube. It had a seam hole. Seriously? Went for the spare on my bike. It was a 26". Sigh. How could I have missed that?
Realized that my 26er was at the shop being lovingly redone after Ali's bid at the Chill. :) Thought I would pick that up, has its knobbies on it and I could wear my boots. Also, I figured if I biffed it TOO bad, I would meet up with them at some point. Yeah, my anxiety ran high.
I got to the bike shop, got the bike, three spare tubes for the 29er, and headed out.
I LOVED it. I felt great about the ride. The first several miles were somewhat plowed, but most of the time I was on a few inches of snow. It was really cool. I turned when it got really icy and crunchy, thinking I did what I needed to do. Now I wish I had done more. I think I could have hoofed it and biked, etc.

Beautiful day to bump around the Badlands. Some trail, some cross country, some sandy hills. I love that place. Tried out the Kahtoolas I got from the Chill. They are rated a little larger than my shoe, but tried them anyway with new Salomons for winter orienteering and rogaining. :) I think they would be perfect one size down, so I think I will try them on my boots for sledding and tobaggoning. I do wonder about the efficacy of screwing screws into my shoes, or if it would be better to spring for a second set of Kahtoolas. I felt really confident in them. We were on patches of ice, and didn't even know it until my dog skidded.

Got to the gym about half hour before my class to spin my legs out. I have been standing so much getting things ready for the holiday, needed to move them! Then, did the class, and decided to go on to 30 miles. Was surprised my heart rate ran so low, and we did some great climbing in class.
