Note
December Chill 2013:
First place two person female. 31 overall.
It was a brisk and sunny day that greeted racers! I think every conversation started with personal current comfort level! It was 17 at the start.
I had a fabulous time with OutdoorsMama in this fun race. We started off with a quick run to break up the pack, then a boogie over to the river for the paddle. We headed upstream and went for #33 thinking we would hit #32 on the way back. Too much of a line and a bumper boats situation. The river was beautiful, and we cleared the paddle points. Only had to break the ice off my paddle three times. :)
Then off on bikes! I made a street nav error, bugger! But I want to ride around Milford more often. I need to go back there. Good road rides it seems. Got to the o course and went counter clockwise. Started with 50 as a warmup, then on to 51, then 48. Had hoped to cross the swamp, but we went around.
Then on to 46. I made an error on what rail we were on, but did all right getting over to the right trail in moments. Then, took a trail to and open area, and used a water body to get to the attack for 45. Then went along the shore and a little bit of trail for 44. Decision time, go south and pick up 4, or east? We learned later we could have totally gone south.
Headed east to 42, and got it...then used the shore and the indistinct trail over to 41 and trail and N bearing back to the bikes. Heard about 40 there. That stinks!
Then biked back to the HQ and headed out on the single track/bikewhack. Went well for us but just realized I accidentally skipped 59!!! And we could have gotten it from 60. Grr. But we got the rest.
Also, nutrition was piss poor. Half a PB sandwich and a brownie. I am sensing a theme among us Michigan racers. Maybe we need a "not just brownies during races" support group?
Great, great fun! Will QR the O section when I scan the map. :)
