Mountain Bike (dirt/paved/single track) 40:00 [3] 9.5 mi (4:13 / mi)
ahr:128

Rode out to Riverbend...and locked my bike. The lock got stuck, so I had to come back with a pliers in my car to get it...bummer. Fortunately I was meeting Ali so I didn't have to run home! :)

Orienteering 1:20:00 [3] 2.5 mi (32:00 / mi)
ahr:120 shoes: INOV8 315

Jens' Badlands...did 1-6, great fun! 2 was a doozy...but got through it.

Got to #1 by going north to the paved path, and then bearing off to the west. Then, because my cross country skills need work, committed to staying off the paved path. Was on bearing to #2, and thought that gully would jump out and bite me! It didn't! I had to double back to the paved path to bear off there, follow the pines, trending slightly south, and then went north to make sure I was covered. Found the small depression, then went back south and there it was! Looked around a bit for the gully, but wanted to keep on, keepin on.

For #3 bore off the paved path. Then, crossed over to #4, which I was a little nervous about...looks like a couple of undulations, and I remember thinking it should be just over there in the small depression, and I looked around a tree and there it was. Then south to #5 and found it on the hill. Then off to 6. Was nervous about my bearing and time, and I now realize that I was spot on. But I did go to the road and attacked from there.

Looking forward to the rest!

Note

Taking a few days off to press the reset button on home, work, garden, family, etc. Next challenges? Grampian! Orienteering races! However, I am sure volunteering at WT won't be a mere walk in the park.

Note

Learned so much from this race! The biggest one was I could have pushed myself so much harder. I woke up feeling great today. Was totally, totally shocked. Not sure I could have done more on the paddle, I think that was skill level hands down, and I just don't have stern skill. I can keep a really straight line on flatwater, but in that river, gosh it was so tough and admittedly felt defeated. I also learned to not feel defeated!

Need to work on 1) biking faster, 2) USGS nav, 3) how to push myself harder. 4) drafting and lastly to have confidence!

Thanks to all you guys who were out there, you all were really helpful! Thanks! Any suggestions are welcome!
