One way from the house to a little north of Bull Run Marina. Breezy but quite nice. Got to watch a bald eagle hunting. Stopped at FH Marina to pick up Dave, but he bailed.

After locking up the boat along the Bull Run trail and doing a wardrobe change, we headed up the trail to Hemlock with packs. AR shuffle.

Blue course at Hemlock. Felt great from the start. Rico left Dusty and came to me at 3. I managed to overrun 4 (last night's 9) again. I had a backstop and corrected quickly. Rico exited 5 with someone else, and I lost him shortly thereafter. I waited for Dusty to catch up, and a search ensued. She ran back to the boat, and I followed my route back to the start. Found him pacing in front of the van. He's too smart. Quite the scare at the time. Of all the times he's run off leash with us, he's never gone out of sight off trail for more than a minute or two. At the finish, I found Glen, and we drove to meet Dusty and the boat at our take out. DNF #2 for the wknd. Good thing I'm not truly an orienteerererer.

Long Advanced Night-O at Hemlock. Clean nav until 8, which I overshot to the west and hit the next trail. Backtracked to it, then blew up at 9, hanging out in the wrong reentrant for quite awhile. Stella started flickering around 8. 10 was not fun to get to, but it seemed no matter the route, it sucked. On the way to 11, the Stella died for good. Caught the road near the pond I was planning to attack from and headed to the finish. DNF. Still a fun night in the woods.
