Kzn trails blythedale 12km, took it a little bit easy running with Andrew, some technical forecast trails, very green. Good turn out of around 400 runners. We were 4/5th overall, but faster runners ran the 20km

Dusi day 3. 26 cumec release was perfect, back in the charity batch and we had two other boats to work with across the dam, they ran away from us on the 800m portage to the river, but they hacked around the put in and we got away from them by choosing a nice spot to the right of the pool exit. Clean lines for the rest of the day except for a near spin at 5 fingers, then we portages on the pump house weir and shot the rapid, probably the biggest rapid for us in the race, but all clean, the strong flow continued to push us all the way until 8km to go. We pulled up to position 197 in an overall time of 11:36. Very happy with the result.

Dusi day 2, my favorite. Water level was still low but there was a 5 cumec release from Nagal, which helped a lot, mostly clean the whole day, we were slow off the start line so towards the back of our batch, passed boats slowly the whole day. Took right line a Marianne folley for the first time, it’s opened up in recent years and it was nice and fast. Slowly over ngumeni hill and then into the big 3, clean lines my my line of the day was at hippo, found the obscure slide into the channel that leads into the main drop, half way down, most people were portaging on the right, so we made up some nice time here. A bit of a slog to the finish with a 2km portage added in to pass some hyacinth blockage before the dam.

Getting some bad tendinitis in my right wrist, hard paddling this ascent in the shallow sections.

Up to position 216.

Dusi day 1, with my Dad. We had a clean day out and finished up well. The level was relatively low, but our ascent sits pretty flat on the water so good over a lot of low lying rocks.

Took more of a middle line at taxi rapid as per some pre race videos and it went well. We don’t do sewage farm portage and that was slower than the boats around us, but maybe not for our time, filter take out at pine tree was clear and we ended up passing a lot of boats here. Sounds out at the top of mission trying to sneak the wave train and managed that fine. Mission itself was good. Didn’t portage cabbage tree but you can see how much distance it saves if you are running well. Position 246.
