Orienteering race 13:41 [4] 2.84 km (4:49 / km)
shoes: Nike Air Pegasus 30 Blue

QB Sprint 1 - Awatapu College, Palmy.
Surprisingly good Sprint - there were a number of blockages in the schools that made route choice more interesting than normal and it was important to always be looking ahead. Took a while to get going properly - partly because it was early morning and partly through not having done this type of thing for a while. Gradually improved though and going fairly well later on. No real mistakes but too many hesitations early on.
Ankle fine for this sort of thing but Si joint got sore overnight, so still not that confident running-wise.

Orienteering race 13:03 [4] 2.55 km (5:07 / km)
shoes: Nike Air Pegasus 30 Blue

QB Sprint 2 - IPU.
Different character. Campus with some vegetation and some slopes. Calf had got quite sore and SI probably a bit worse in between the races, but not too much of a problem while running. Set off a bit harder than usual with Guy and Jeff being the next 2 starters. Went fairly well. Wrong route to 7 (15s?). Lost about 5s 8-9 too busy looking ahead and ran too far along the road. Otherwise sound.
8 PM

Note

Had been feeling a bit dubious during the day. By evening, not feeling great at all. Appear to be getting the cold that Larissa had and Susan now has.

Orienteering 58:06 [3] 7.72 km (7:32 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon

QB 1 - Whirokino (E. part of Osgiliath) - M50 - 6.9Km
Thought it might be physical, but didn't realise how much. Constant heavy going with lots of undergrowth. Ankle was feeling dodgy right up until the start, but never felt too bad during the race, though was protecting quite significantly and taking path routes whenever possible (which wasn't that often).
Visibility quite good so not too tricky, but still a number of controls to be treated with respect. Fairly clean run, just a few seconds lost here and there. Was starting very early and was first through the forest after the first 5 controls. It tracked up a lot for later starters.

Really ought to know by now that a large flat white an hour or so before starting is not a good idea!

Running 49:19 [3] 10.07 km (4:54 / km) +147m 4:34 / km
shoes: Nike Pegasus 33 Blue

Harriers - to Riverstone around and back. Awful weather so a smaller group than usual and no-one slow so the rests were shorter than usual. Ankle improved a lot overnight, but still went carefully to start with. Once it appeared to be OK, put a bit more effort in and felt good.

Orienteering 2:00:00 [2] 13.0 km (9:14 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon

At Battle Hill again. Mostly taping control sites. Running pretty well, but left ankle started getting a bit sore towards the end and is really quite sore now (a few hours later).

Running 1:02:32 [3] 10.75 km (5:49 / km) +407m 4:53 / km
shoes: Nike Pegasus 33 Blue

Avian - spur above Stokes Valley - Avro
Feeling pretty good and ran at a good tempo. The track down to the pylon is getting a bit overgrown (and some others are as well), so a bit slower than it used to be.
