WOC Sprint Event - Wellington Waterfront - 3.5Km

Foot a bit sore. Had to take it very carefully as very wet and I didn't want to take risks without much grip. Running OK when able to go in a straight line, but still protecting foot a bit. A few seconds lost here and there. Biggest mistake at 11 where I misread the feature.

Note

Two Sundays this week. Spent about 2.5 hours walking round downtown Vancouver. Foot really quite sore after the flight.

Whitemans Valley all the way to Te Marua, around the Emerald Hill loop, back up the steeper hill to Whitemans Valley, down Wallaceville Hill, up Blue Mountains.

First longer bike ride for a while, felt surprisingly good despite going at a decent pace, and was still reasonably strong up the hill at the end.

Couple of twinges from foot when trying to accelerate, but otherwise fine.

Hill session up Boulder Hill from Dry Creek. 6 x 3 mins hard uphill, 1 min jog downhill, though carried on going after the 3rd, 4th and 5th efforts because there were flat stretches just ahead.

Good tough session. Struggling to move quickly on some of the later, steeper sections. Legs a bit tired.

Was careful with foot. Definitely feeling some very slight discomfort on most of the efforts, but no real pain. Maybe this can be managed.

The Whitemans Valley loop clockwise.

Legs felt tired and the bike seemed harder work. Quite surprised to be under the hour, bad had kept putting the effort in.

No problems with foot. A few twinges of pain during the day, but no problem biking.

The brakes work so I am back doing the hills. Felt like I was in pretty good shape, but that's what a couple of days rest does. No problem at all with foot, so biking is probably the way to go for a bit.

Some light jogging round Belmont Domain to see what state foot was in. A bit of mild soreness in the first few minutes but not too bad thereafter.
7 PM

Orienteering 11:50 [3] 2.0 km (5:55 / km)
(injured) shoes: Saucony

'Beer-O' around Belmont Domain (dark, obviously). 1.8K in 3 short loops with drinks at start, end and in between loops.

Started tentatively, but foot felt fine so gradually increased speed until running last loop pretty quickly (though still carefully). Felt good to be running.

Ginger beer instead of beer was a bad mistake - really sweet, really fizzy. So much quicker having beer for the last drink!

Intending to try biking, but Larissa sick so had to stay in all day. Legs still tired anyway. Foot quite a lot less sore.
