Paddle (Kayak) 2:05:26 [3] 7.8 mi (16:05 / mi)

North on the Saginaw River toward the bay. I was totally going to paddle around the bay, but it was apparently much farther than I'd thought. I thought I was right there, but looking at my track, I was apparently still pretty far from it. There were storm warnings, but things looked ok. Then, as I was approaching the dock, the park speakers gave the "Take shelter immediately. Do not delay." warning. So, I hurried to get the kayak out and packed up. Success. No thunder storming on me. I will need to attempt this again on a clear day and start closer to the bay like in Essexville.

Mountain Bike (Roads) 3:00:20 [3] 43.3 mi (14.4 mph)

Same as last 3-hour ride. Nice evening for a ride.

Run (Trails) 46:00 [3] 3.0 mi (15:20 / mi)

Midland City Forest. I just had to get on the trails. 2 run 2 walk again since I had some slight pain after the last run like that. Starting to get back into the running rhythm. This went better - no pain the next day.

Mountain Bike (City Forest) 1:10:20 [3] 9.4 mi (8.0 mph)

Got in a nice ride at City forest, but cut a bit short due to having to get somewhere and leaving work later than planned. Oh well... most of the way to the 1.5 hours anyway.

Paddle (Kayak) 1:56:20 [3] 7.1 mi (16:23 / mi)

Took the kayak out on the Saginaw river in Bay City since I was already there. Good for a change of pace and much less "urban" than I'd expected.

Mountain Bike (1:10:00) 1:10:00 [3]

Forgot to log this. Rode after my run in the evening. Late start due to leaving the hospital meant shorter ride. Not sure on distance

Run (run/walk) 31:00 [3] 2.4 mi (12:55 / mi)

2:2 ratio. A bit of soreness the next day, but overall the run wasn't as difficult as last time.

Paddle (Canoe) 2:27:50 [3] 11.0 mi (13:26 / mi)

Went out in the canoe with Thayon today. Fun times. She is originally from MN, so somewhat used to paddling, but not AR style with a kayak paddle. I taught her the correct form, but it's hard to get on the first try. It was a beautiful sunny day, but not too hot. No wind. Great day for a paddle!

Mountain Bike (Roads) 3:00:47 [3] 43.3 mi (14.4 mph)

Rode WAY north to see what was up there. Trees. And a peacock. I enjoyed the ride and the new route. I planned it perfectly and even remembered the whole thing. (Road memory-O?) It was nice to be riding by trees rather than just farm fields.

Hike (Walk/run) 30:22 [3] 2.1 mi (14:28 / mi)

Run 1 min, walk 3 min. Felt fine on the achilles. I felt slow and sluggish during the run segments, but I felt that way on my first ride back too. Total of 8 minutes running It will come back soon, I'm sure. Next time, I will do 1:2 and if that works, I'll go to 2:2 and keep slowly adding more.

Mountain Bike (roads) 1:14:00 [3] 17.4 mi (14.1 mph)

Absolutely no wind, so I went northeast. I rode by the dirt race track, but there was a race and the dust was in the air for a half mile radius. So, I took a slightly different route home. I started pretty easy and built up to going faster as the ride went on (but not all that fast... just faster than the start) Love riding/running around sunset time. So pretty!

Mountain Bike (Roads) 1:14:03 [3] 16.3 mi (13.2 mph)

Beautiful evening. Glad to warm up after the pool run, though I did wear arm warmers the whole ride. Nice easy ride, great sunset and courteous drivers. :)

Run (Pool Run) 1:00:00 [3]

Forgot that I had this weird neoprene shirt thing until right before the workout. I was looking for something for extra flotation when I saw it. I bought it two years ago thinking I'd wear it for paddling. Nope, but it was perfect to keep me a little warmer for the pool run. I was pretty good for about 40 min, but I was able to deal with being a bit cold the last 20. I got better at remembering to breathe this time. Next run - real road running!!!! (and walking)

Mountain Bike (Roads) 2:07:40 [3] 30.5 mi (14.3 mph)

Back roads. Today was my chance at bike rage. Some guy passed me on a back road while another car was coming (a rare thing) and almost caused a head on crash. The other guy had to go off the road. I was in such aggressive bird flipping mode I almost dislocated my elbow. THEN, he turned into his driveway 0.2 miles up the road. He had just opened his car door as I was passing and I screamed "Way to almost cause a head on crash to save 20 seconds!" Otherwise uneventful. Pretty windy with some ominous clouds, but no rain. I had a rain coat just in case, though.

Mountain Bike (Gravel Roads) 1:34:00 [3] 19.8 mi (12.6 mph)

Gravel road ride around my parents' house. I went North and East first, which was not ideal since the wind was out of the West-southwest. BUT, I had to go check out this hill my dad was telling me about. He said it was like a wall, but he hadn't tried it out yet. Well, it was one of those that looks bad from afar, but isn't really that bad when you ride it. Even going easy, it only took me 2 minutes. No problem. Actually, there were lots of good hills on that road. Nice ride, overall. I like the overgrown landscape out there. The ride back was lots of headwind, but I expected and planned for it.

Mountain Bike (back roads) 1:58:26 [3] 27.3 mi (13.8 mph)

Strong wind out of the south. Exploring some roads I hardly ever ride because they would usually put me in a "finish into the headwind" ride which I don't really like. So, this wasn't too well-planned and I ended up having to ride a few miles on Garfield Rd, which is busier than I like to ride on. At least it's easy for people to see you from far away.

Run 53:00 [3]

Pool Running- I finally got the float belt. Pretty boring, but ok. Better than the treadmill, probably. I didn't feel like the float got me high enough out of the water and kept holding my breath, so I got a pool noodle and added that, which got me high enough that I felt like I could breathe. Still kept finding myself holding my breath though. oops. I guess I need to focus on that next time.

Road Bike 1:11:50 [3] 18.2 mi (15.2 mph)

Glad I did this second after the pool run. I really needed to get warmed up (neighbor's pool is still cold) Overall felt good, but think I'm going back to the mountain bike. My road shoes are a bit tight and the back of my heel was a bit irritated at the end.

Road Bike (Rail Trail) 1:56:53 [3] 32.2 mi (16.5 mph)

Rail Trail out and back. At mile 13, I decided to start kicking it up... more at 14 almost to TT speed and then pretty much full TT at 15 until I hit the turn-around point. Too bad I had a major headwind as that was a super open area. Oh well, good to get some effort in. However, when I turned around and lightened the effort, I realized my lower right calf was hurting a bit, so I decided I was done with the hard efforts and just kept a good steady pace for the ride back. With the tail wind, I was still able to increase my average pace by about .6 mph. No impromptu races with men in cargo shorts today. Oh, and I did note some discomfort on the back of the heel when biking over bumpy things (wooden bridges, rough road) like the vibration bothered it. It wasn't necessarily in the achilles itself.

Mountain Bike (Fun times) 1:32:40 [3] 20.8 mi (13.5 mph)

Fun easy recovery ride with Work4Justice. We just chatted for 45 minutes on the bike until it was time to turn around. Then, we rode home and chatted that whole way too. I worried I was enabling W4J to exercise while injured, but she assured me that it wasn't bothering it (and she's going to the doctor tomorrow.) Great to get to catch up!

Road Bike 1:42:24 [3] 27.2 mi (15.9 mph)

Rail trail - no pain! Knee did not bother me this time.

The rail trail is a really hard place to do an easy/recovery effort ride sometimes. I was passing people no problem going 17.2 with a very slight tail wind. However, one guy I passed (who I KNOW was going slower the whole rest of the time because I passed him going the other way before i hit my tur around) laid on the effort and sprinted back past me... just before he hit his finish point. Another guy "cargo shorts and world's biggest fanny pack" put on the effort to pass me back about 2 miles before the end of the trail hitting the end maybe 100m in front of me. Congratulations, you passed a girl on a recovery ride. You're such a man... OOohh, did I want to kick it in and show him what was up. No no, focus on the plan. Focus on the planned ride. I kept it under control.

Mountain Bike (Road) 1:12:53 [3] 26.3 km (21.7 kph)
(injured)

RIDING MY BIKE! Whoo!!! I got the OK from the doc on yesterday, so I got to ride today! Very happy and had multiple giggle sessions. One was because I smelled elmer's glue and then 30 seconds later, it was more like mustard. I was thinking that the people at that farm house were probably grilling burgers with mustard... (and elmer's glue?) I used to love to put elmer's glue on my hands and let it dry so I could peel it off. Fun.

Happy as I was to be on the bike, I felt a little sluggish in the legs and my right knee was a bit achey at the end. Maybe from favoring that right foot for 10 days?
