Paddle (Stellar SR) 1:02:33 [3] 3.2 mi (19:33 / mi)
ahr:130 max:156

Ocean Paddle with the California Kayak Friends group. They are mostly older people who just paddle out to enjoy the water - not really going for any hard training. It was the perfect group for me to paddle with for my first time on the ocean. I did a practice remount at the Kiddie Beach, and it didn't go quite as I'd hoped. I did get an assist with someone bracing my boat. We went out past the breakers and into the swells. I'm not sure how high they were, but you couldn't see shore when you were in a trough. It was both exciting and a bit scary. I took a hit from the side that sent me in, but I made an easy remount with a brace help. I wore a farmer john wetsuit with long sleeves and was totally comfortable after my two dips in the water. An hour was enough for me today. While I did really well overall, it was mentally exhausting just getting accustomed to being in the swells. Looking forward to slowly building this up. The nice thing is that there's always the harbor channels for paddling if the waves are too big or if I want to paddle alone. Apparently, there's a 5-mile loop in the harbor.

Note: HR was not related to effort - it was elevated due to the thrill/discomfort of being in the open ocean.

Hike (Pipeline Trail) 2:26:28 [3] 6.0 mi (24:25 / mi) +1798ft 19:01 / mi
ahr:118 max:158

Hiked right out from my door through Grant Park and up past the "do not cross - police shooting range" area and into the Ventura Hills. The views were great and the temperature was perfect. After a TE of 5.0 on Thursday, I wasn't surprised when Garmin told me my recovery was only "fair" so I took the pace very easy and just enjoyed being outside on the trail. I'd planned to turn around after an hour, but there was another peak that was calling me, and it didn't seem THAT far, so I walked out there. I found a small trail I could cut to make a loop another time.

Mountain Bike (Sulphur Mountain) 1:53:19 [3] 13.6 mi (7.2 mph) +1752ft
ahr:154 max:174

Wow! Went out for a ride with local adventure racer, Jeff and another rider. We set out for a night ride to climb sulphur mountain. Total trail is 9 miles, but today wasn't the day to complete it. This kicked my butt!!! Not riding in 6 months and coming from flats... to almost 7 miles of continuous uphill. I had a TE of 5.0 and 23:23 in Z5, 31:48 in Z4... not EXACTLY ramping it up slowly, but I'll just take a day off tomorrow and do an easier hike Saturday.

Run (Botanic Garden Trail) 36:24 [3] 2.6 mi (14:00 / mi) +423ft 12:08 / mi
ahr:154 max:172

Ran out to the trailhead, hit the lap:
Parking lot to the road:
0.6 mi - 9:09
Road to cantilever bench:
0.25 mi - 3:46
Total - 12:46
The baseline has been set!
Tried to view the sunset pink sky, but it was just not the night for it. Well, another time...

Run (Run-walk) 55:27 [3] 3.8 mi (14:35 / mi) +518ft 12:55 / mi
ahr:144 max:166

Ran up to the base of the botanical garden trail, and intended to time myself, but I accidentally hit the "stop" button rather than the lap, so no baseline time today. Next time, I'll establish a baseline for this uphill run. It was sunny and mild (66 degrees) but I definitely worked up a sweat. I did some additional exploration after I ran back down. I was trying to find those condos I'd seen from main street that looked really nice. Figured it out later today... they are $700,000+. Out of my price range.

Run (Run-walk) 43:33 [3] 2.5 mi (17:25 / mi) +646ft 14:00 / mi
ahr:151 max:169

Decided to check out the trail in Grant Park. I had to walk a lot because the section I chose had some STEEP hill climbs. I found the botanical gardens, so I decided to take the parents there later on. It turns out that they're brand new and not too far along in construction. They have a 1-mile demo trail. Anyway, this was a nice climb, but it seems like a dead-end because there's a live fire police training facility at the end of all the trails.

Run (Run-walk) 35:49 [3] 3.0 mi (11:56 / mi)
ahr:155 max:169

First Run in Ventura. Went up the Ventura River trail 1.5 miles and came back. This section of the trail was OK, but it goes between the highway and industrial buildings, so not too exciting, but mostly flat. I did a 5 min run/1 min walk ratio. Really looking forward to getting back in shape.
