So far, so good.

No problems until I got off the train at L'Enfant Plaza. I waited there for about 40 minutes for the Silver Line which never showed up. In retrospect I probably should have caught an Orange Line train.

Bicycling 23:20 [3] 4.8 mi (4:52 / mi)

After waiting 40 minutes on the Blue/Orange/Silver Line platform I left the station and grabbed a bicycle from the CaBi station across the street. I bicycled to Rosslyn and caught the Orange Line from there.

I wasn't sure exactly how to get from L'Enfant to Rosslyn. I took Independence Ave from 7th to 15th Street. I took the 14th Street Bridge across the Potomac and then the Mount Vernon Trail to Rosslyn. I circled around for a few minutes until I found the closest CaBi station to the Metro.

The Orange Line showed up just as I got to the platform. It took 50 minutes to get from there to Tyson's Corner. On a good day I can make it from Takoma to Tyson's Corner in 50-60 minutes. The ride from Rosslyn to East Falls Church went smoothly enough. The wait at East Falls Church for a Silver Line train was not short.

Finally got to work. Altogether it took me about 90 minutes longer than usual. The upside is that I got a little more exercise than usual and it opened my eyes to the possibility of bicycling home from Rosslyn.

Pohick Bay
Blue: 20 controls, 7 km, 440 m

Actual Distance Traveled: 10.7 km
Actual Climb: 274 m

Not my finest performance. In the past Pohick Bay hasn't been too challenging for me. That was not the case today, although I think that can be blamed in large part on sloppy job I did looking for certain controls.

I goofed on a number of controls. Probably my biggest mistake was heading W instead of S when I was searching for 8/131. I expected to find the control much faster than I did, winged it, and paid the price. I eventually circled around enough that I wound up back at the previous control. My second attempt at finding 8/131 was successful although even that took me longer than I wanted it to take.

My other big problem was the heat. It caused me to sweat a lot. It got on to my glasses. I stopped numerous times to wipe them clean but probably not often enough. It wasn't as bad after I decided to keep my hat on my head. The hat Seemed to absorb most of the sweat. I really need to look into getting some good headgear so to help me avoid these kinds of situations during the warmer months of the year.

I decided to bicyce to Foggy Bottom because all the CaBi stations near McPherson Square and Farragut West were full. There was lots of stop and go traffic. I'm not sure it was worth it. I might do it again or next time I might take the train from Columbia Heights.

After seeing how hard the rain was come down in Tysons Corner around 5:30-6 I decided not to chance it and took the metro all the way to Takoma.
