Orienteering race 47:34 [3] 2.4 km (19:49 / km)
shoes: OROC Spiked

Disappointing run. Never could find control #3. Turned out it was on the trail just north of the one it was shown on the map. It was hidden in the bushes. I'm not sure why everyone else had no problems with it. I spent several minutes looking before I gave up on it.

Resting the toes - I would like to do the AR this Saturday. See how the big toes are doing.

Day 4 of the Camp Stem Adventure

No TV or computer during this time. It's always fun to get away.

I picked up the remaining controls then cleaned up the lodge where I was staying and headed for home. I stopped by and pulled GPS waypoints for the old homestead. Pretty easy to find when two different people showed me on the map where they had seen it. This will be a neat location for a control in the future.

I pulled all the electronic controls out but have not gotten the manuals. So there are still 8 manual controls out in the field. I will work on recruiting and see if anyone else will pick them up.

Day 3 Camp Stem Adventure

Got some controls picked up after the meet with Matt & Pam's help. Meet writeup follows.

On a very humid day, 18 came out for the 3rd annual Rogaine. On Friday, a thunderstorm started at 2:00 and did not end until 6:00. This resulted in me not getting out 4 controls on the far North of the course. I also had to cancel the MTB point to point courses and just go with the Rogaine course.

Chris was our only 3 hr on a bike. As he said and all the others on bikes agreed. The bike controls were great, but the foot controls on a bike was like carrying a bowling ball around.

Paul, Alison & Nancy were a 3hr team. It was great to see all of them.

On the 6hr bike - Louis III & Aaron managed to clear the course carrying their bowling balls, but Carl ran out of steam with his (heavier model).

On the 6hr foot - Doug, Matt & Dan ran as a team clearing the course. Scott was right behind them also clearing but did it solo! Louis had a great run - saying it was fun to do real Orienteering for a change. Laura, Lonnie & Cecil were a team but Cecil got cramps so bad that even a beer could not get him back on the course. So they had to bow out early. Jim had a good showing after I wore him out setting on Thursday. Pam in her first solo orienteering try, did very well. Special thanks to Pam for all her help with this meet.

Matt arrived late and was interested in the bike controls - so he rode two different loops - the west loop and then the east loop. Special thanks to Matt for picking up the controls on the east loop. That saved me a lot of time.

The consensus of the fastest teams were if I had gotten those last 4 controls out, it would have added about 45 minutes to one hour to clear the course.

Day 2 of the Camp Stem Adventure

Combination of bike and foot putting out controls. Took a little longer due to stinging nettles being neck high on me in the flood plain on the old road. I punched a path thru it almost 250 meters long. I will post a photo later in FB.
Thunderstorm came in at 2:00 and it rained for 4 hours. Lightening was wicked. Waited until 5:00 and just started putting out all the controls I could. I ended up not getting the 4 most northern ones hung. I had to cancel the MTB point to point, just too wet plus missing a couple controls on the one loop. Both of my big toes are killing me, nails are half gone what's left is cutting into the toes.

Pam felt bad for me and let me stay in one of the girl scout lodges. It was nice to get a shower and have somewhere dry to sleep since I was going to be camping.
