Orienteering race 1:22:28 [4] 6.9 km (11:57 / km)
shoes: Jalas - Spiked

Ran the Green Course at Harbin Park - an OCIN meet. About 3 - 5" of snow on the ground. Though in places it had drifted. It felt like running in sand. The park is a mix of open area and forest. The forest has a lot of twisting bike trails. The controls in the woods were challenging. The controls in the open areas had a variety of route choices. I felt that I had missed time on control 13. My route choice from 5 to 6 was not the greatest. Overall good run just slow on the long legs of 4 to 5 and 6 to 7 and 10 to 11.

Walking 38:19 [1] 2.82 km (13:35 / km)
shoes: INOV TERROC 330

I wore the Inov-8 to get some traction in the snow. I need to break in my latest pair of spiked shoes the $9 PUMA's.

Orienteering 38:10 [3] 2.82 km (13:32 / km)

The snow arrived late morning. The temp's plunged during the day. A winter wonderland.

Got to see the splits from the Green course. Aragorn had an outstanding run. We only had 3 ranked runners on the course so no Attackpoint ranking was assigned on the Green course. You seem to need 4 to get that. I will try and get Bruce out on Green. Ojoy had great speed but had a lot of missed time. My training will continue to focus on speed. Outside of a couple sprints I had my fastest speed ever, but still need to improve.

Orienteering race 1:47:44 [4] 7.5 km (14:22 / km)
shoes: Jalas - Spiked

I had a great time at OCIN meet today. This was the first meet I did in contacts. I used some $10 reading glasses with them. This seemed to work great. First time no moisture problem with my glasses. These last few OCIN meets for me have been great since they have all been new maps for me. Everything is fresh.

I had my usual problems with the first control. I'm always amped and ready to make something happen but that does not always pay off if you don't execute your plan. I lost some time on 8 to 9 overshot control to far N. Also 10 to 11 ran down wrong spur which also had a 2M rootstock. On 13 to 14, I should have taken a bearing but got lazy with the open field. On 15 to 16 I did not execute my route very well and lost a lot of time there.

It was great to see Rob, Brenda and Aidan. I was pleased to see Aidan is now running Green. That will give us more runners on the course and more people for me to discuss routes.

Finished up my part on the Lake McNeely Map. It was a beautiful day today. Most of the ground was frozen anything not was muck!

Walking 38:04 [1] 2.82 km (13:30 / km)

Another rain storm on a weekend. The good news this one was much weaker than earlier. Maybe the pattern is trying to change!
