3hr Minigaine at Kincumber with Jem
Nice area and enjoyable course although more of the State Forrest north could have been used and the map had a few issues. Some of the street controls were difficult to link in efficiently, otherwise it was fairly straightforward to plan with obvious bush loops in the north and south. Estimated around 25km for all controls and with only 2 major climbs we planned to go for the lot. It was cool & overcast so I got away with carrying a 600ml water bottle rather than a camelback. Didn't need to refill.
We went south to south Kincumber first then an anti-clockwise loop. Had quite a few hiccups...
- Exiting 45 we went south on an unmapped track instead of SE (5mins).
- 33 & 68 Circles were in the wrong spot (5mins).
- Confused by the vehicle track description (2mins).
- 30 couldn't find which was on the wrong track (5mins).
- 81 a bad nav error taking wrong turn on the map fold (3mins).
We both felt good and managed to run the whole way except for the two steep climbs. Also had some stops/rests at the error points mentioned above.
Got the lot (2370pts) in 2hr 33m. 1min ahead of Mike Hotchkins who trailed us most of the way but caught up at the misplaced controls. Jem was very pleased to finally beat his sister in a Rogaine (Gill, 2:39).
