running/walking 20:00 [1]
slept:7.0 (injured) shoes: Salomon

AM - 15th & Kasold - Red Dog group run. About 8 min of calisthenics, then to 19th & Iowa via West Campus. Pulled right hamstring going downhill to pond west of Parker Hall. Had to walk back to car. Same sort of pull 14 years ago. Can't get a break from injuries. Even wanted to race the 5K in Merriam (Larry Rink did 21 min & some change, so would have been hard to finish any higher than 5th). Well, out for how long now?

strength/stretching 10:00 [1]
shoes: Asics GT2100

AM - using the Asics GT2100 with a foam insert in the left shoe to cushion the left calf and heel. Calisthenics - Jeff led with Reg Dog out this morning. A lot in 10 min.

running/walking 20:00 [2]
slept:7.0 shoes: Asics GT2100

AM - decided to test the left calf. Figured stretching and strengthening creates some soreness and shouldn't deter me from running. The run was OK, no pain during the run, no pain an hour later. Biking workouts are great and enjoy them, but I still have not succeeded in getting fit for the marathon distance.

biking (road bike) 1:13:00 [3]
slept:7.0 shoes: Shimano (bike)

PM - gusty winds from the W, sunny about 70. out to Clinton SP (to start area for Jan 1 XC race) and back - on bikeway. Tried the Jelly Belly Sport Beans. Just sweeter than Gu; need try them on a long run. Too much work fiddling around trying to get them out of my back jersey pocket (need to pour out of the bag into ____ (what?)

Didn't find my mystery bird from Monday, but did see a bunch of Canada geese (Clinton SP) and one huge wild turkey along the bikepath (W of Corpus Christi Church).

biking (road bike) 1:04:00 [3]
slept:7.5 shoes: Shimano (bike)

PM - seemed better rested this morning. Decided to go to work early (arrived 6:30) to finish up the new student orientation details. Then left work early and rode to Clinton Lake overlook. Got caught in the sunny rain on the way back. Temp was about 65, so I was already in long sleeves - so it was a nice ride. Tail wind was great (from NW) heading out. Felt like I was training at tempo at that point. Going back wasn't so bad. Had no idea how good my tires were, so I practically came to a stop at every turn in the rain. Back the house, not a drop of rain.

Saw a brown bird with one wide strip across the end of each wing (not a skilled birder, so don't know what I saw except I hadn't noticed that wing pattern before). Then a bluebird. Then wondered what that first bird was which seemed to have the body of a scissor-tail flycatcher. Thinking to myself that it's been a long time since I'd seen an scissor-tail. . . and then one flew right in front of me. Made my day! - even with the rain.
