8 AM

Cycling warm up/down (To Event) 54:00 [3] 17.2 km (3:08 / km)
shoes: Specalized MTB Cleats

To Gladstone Park. Unfortunately missed a turning near the end and so ended up cycling an extra kilometre (and climbing a 12% gradient).
9 AM

Road Running race (parkrun) 21:02 [3] 5.0 km (4:12 / km) +80m 3:54 / km
slept:5.5 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 11 AW11

Gladstone parkrun. Arrived a bit late (see above) so started 80 seconds after everyone else, and with no time to switch from jogpants to shorts. Then had to stop for a further 30 seconds at the first corner to retie a lace. Very pleasant day, great views from the park, and a nice two-lap butterfly course with some not insignificant up-and-down. Never pushed myself - was trying to recover from the cycle to the event, and mindful of the day's long cycle afterwards.

Great organisation from the parkrun team - lots of signs, marshals, photography and encouragement. Felt a little bad tearing through the back of the field - it must be disconcerting to have someone do that to you long after you've settled into your pace.

Splits: 4:44, 4:02, 4:28, 4:08, 3:41 (Garmin says course was 80m short so final km is more like 3:58.)
10 AM

Cycling long (To Event) 5:24:25 [2] 92.8 km (3:30 / km) +650m 3:23 / km
shoes: Specalized MTB Cleats

From Gladstone Park (NW London) to Oxford, via Harrow, Pinner, Amersham, Great Missenden, Princes Risborough, Thame and Wheatley. A pretty efficient, straight route (the second half was generally on NCR57), with some nice sections along the Chilterns Cycleway in particular and going through Pinner in London. Phoenix Trail section (Princes Risborough to Thame) was duller than expected. Highest altitude was 260m. Time doesn't include an hour's break at a pub about half-way along. Moving time was 4:49:45, + 35 minutes of short breaks, + lunch. Amused to get a puncture on literally the final corner - about 50m from the planned end at St Aldates.

Road Running race (Fun Run) 50:54 [4] 9.75 km (5:13 / km)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 11 AW11

Canary Wharf Jog. 1km course in a tight loop. Started right at the back as arrived only a couple of minutes before. First couple of km were pretty slow with the massed runners in front - but then it is a "jog". Ran with Ben L for the latter ~5km. Last 1.5km hurt quite a lot - did one final km lap to make sure I had definitely done 10km, as had lost count!

GPS had serious issues (all the skyscrapers) but have managed to resurrect my splits based on squinting at the trace. The route was a simple back-and-forth along South Colonnade, with a short section north at the east end, i.e. an L shape.

What I don't understand was that the start line was half way along the main road, but the finish was just before the corner of the "L" - therefore everyone's final lap (or first lap) is not a kilometre - more like 0.75km. Hence why I've logged 9.75km and not 10km! (I appear to have visited the turn at the 300m point 10 times).

Actual course (green = start, red = finish, yellow = first of the two turn-points on the course, at 300m):

9 PM

Cycling (Back Home) 36:00 [2] 12.1 km (2:59 / km)

From Canary Wharf.

Orienteering race (Park Race) 29:15 [4] *** 4.2 km (6:58 / km)

Park Race No. 1 at Wandle Park. Warm. Great controlfest and some devious sections, if you didn't read the map properly (I didn't.) No idea how far I actually ran, because my GPS is still sulking over its lack of memory. But was probably about 6.5-7km.
10 PM

Cycling (Back Home) 1:04:00 [3] 22.7 km (2:49 / km)

Collier's Wood to home. Back on the new bike - I miss the clips from the old one.

Porto City Race 2013. Hot, great fun, lots of steps, lots of tricky sections! Great park section at the end with lots of sections and closed gates, had me fooled.

Justlog Park Race, on a wood-covered hilltop overlooking Porto. A very different feel to a UK race. The first half was through quite green woodlands, I mainly stuck to the paths to avoid the vicious looking vegetation. The section was a section of intense control picking, on a steep but open woodland right by the finish. Good flow was key here. Really enjoyed it - even the uphill finish. Later, had a go on the Trail-O which was in the same area.

Score Orienteering race (Street-O) 52:18 [3] ** 9.78 km (5:21 / km)
slept:7.0 (injured) shoes: Nike Lunar +2s

Street-O in Greenwich/Blackheath. Plan was to climb at the beginning and then basically stay high, enjoy running around Greenwich Park and Blackheath, and then drop down and around Greenwich Maritime back to the start. Gait felt a bit awkward, put that down to tiredness and stuck to the grass more than tarmac. Views from Greenwich Park over to the Isle of Dogs were fantastic and it was a pleasure running around. Unfortunately after I had cleared Blackheath and dropped down, shin splints started to appear. Quite quickly decided to jack in the race, to maximise chances of recovery for Porto at the weekend. Had a long walk back from the Lewisham border to Maze Hill, through the bottom of Greenwich Park, so got back nine minutes late and missed a lot of high-scoring controls near the end of my planned route.

Nice pub though and good map.

Looking back at my AP injury log, they generally take a couple of weeks to clear up, however i think they are very minor this time (didn't feel them walking to lunch the day after) so maybe I'll be OK for Saturday - we'll see.

And note to self - do not do road running two days in a row. Ever.
10 PM

Cycling (From Event) 53:00 [1] 16.3 km (3:15 / km)

Including walking through the Greenwich Foot Tunnel and through roadworks at Westferry Circus.

BRC at Holmbury Hill. Running leg 2 for SLOW 3rd team on the Men's Open. With strong runs from my 1 and 3, we finished about halfway down the list. Generally good run except for silly 2.5 minute parallel error near the end - but didn't like the brashing - ended up with a lot of cuts and scratches. Very dry weather and got very warm by the end of the race.
