Orienteering race (Night Race) 44:54 [4] ***** 6.0 km (7:29 / km)
34c shoes: New Balance M860SB4

Night Race in Parc Suzanne Lenglen on the southern edge of Paris proper. Great fun. Very tricky section in tunnels which was visited twice - annoyingly I completely messed it up the second time. Lap of a 400m track at the end. Finished 34th of 52.

Cycling (From Event) 1:15:00 [2] 12.3 km (6:06 / km) +40m 6:00 / km

Late at night, and confused early on, hence the zig-zag there. On the Velib. Was expecting this to be around 45 minutes. Route: http://bikeroutetoaster.com/BRTWebUI/Course/731591

Paris O Tour. Campus middle race in Cité Descartes, Noisy-Champs, east of Paris. Started off as a park sprint, then through some housing estates and finally around the campus itself. Made some big mistakes at "trap" controls, mainly due to it being pretty hot and failing to read control descriptions where necessary. Not impressed with myself. Finished 40th of 74.

The first Brussels Orienteering Meeting, taking advantage of a car free day in the centre of the city. Had the first start (9am) due to running in London later, and also it was raining, so the streets were largely empty. A nice course with a mix of short and long legs, lots of direction changes and some nice views in certain places. Included a short bit by the Grand Place and a control at the Mannekin Pis which was already busy with tourists. Then back to the hostel for a shower, check out and head to the Eurostar. Finished 17th of 32 on Men's Elite. Rain ~14.6km.

Orienteering race (Urban Race) 1:04:57 [4] *** 8.9 km (7:18 / km)
28c shoes: New Balance M860SB4

The 7th London City Race. First time running competitively. Good route choice legs for the first two-thirds of the race, then shorter, more technical legs through the Barbican and the Golden Lane Estate, including a very tricky penultimate leg. Finished 24th of 51 finishers on Men's Elite. Made up 12 places during the Barbican/Golden Lane Estate section, due to knowing the layout of both areas very well! Ran ~13.9km.

Brussels Urban Middle race, in a nice suburb of south-west Brussels. Unexpectedly hot and sunny (27*C). Spectacular finish running around/down concrete stadium seating. Finished 13th of 50. Ran ~9.3km.

Cycle Commuting (In to Work) 24:45 [2] 10.38 km (2:23 / km)

Would have been comfortably sub-24, possibly sub-23 even, if it hadn't been for Euston Road being completely clogged up.

Orienteering (Street-O) 59:04 [4] 10.9 km (5:25 / km)
shoes: New Balance M860SB4

SLOW London Street-O. Stayed south of the river which was a mistake, as I got stuck in Bermondsey with no nearby controls remaining. So, I scored less than some who ran a shorter distance.

Cycling (To Event) 33:20 [2] 11.3 mi (2:57 / mi) +147m 2:50 / mi

Norton Canes to near Rugeley, via back roads, including a nice bit of the Chase. Spectacular 90m descent right at the end.

Orienteering race (British Championships) 56:57 [4] ***** 6.5 km (8:46 / km) +144m 7:53 / km
34c shoes: Adidas Swoop 1s

British Middle-Distance Championships, near Rugeley. Both technically and physically (bracken, hills) very difficult. Miserably slow compared to the elite, the winner took just half my time - amazing! Biggest mistake was around halfway around when I made a parallel error on a ditch, coming downhill. Ran up and down the wrong ditch many times, then a loop back to try and work out what was going on. 3.5 mins wasted. Very annoying. A few smaller mistakes too but I would have struggled to have got under 50 minutes with a fault-free run, so still overawed by elite speed. http://www.strava.com/activities/191343582

Cycling (To Station) 13:00 [2] 4.5 km (2:53 / km)

21c shoes: New Balance M860SB4

Sprint Champs - 1.1 Qualifier. Few mistakes, particularly near the end, where I dropped over a minute cumulatively. So out of the B final and into the C (bottom) final. :-( http://www.strava.com/activities/191343359
2 PM

Orienteering race (British Championships) 14:29 [4] **** 2.9 km (5:00 / km) +27m 4:46 / km
21c shoes: New Balance M860SB4

Sprint Champs - C1 Final. Nearly mistake-free but a couple of suboptimal route choices near the end and also a 90-degree error coming out of one section, a 20 second mistake which is costly for a sprint. :-( http://www.strava.com/activities/191343499
4 PM

Cycling long (From Event) 2:49:12 [3] 61.0 km (2:46 / km)

Keele University to Norton Canes. Moving time. First half with HG. Nasty road around Stoke-on-Trent, but then picked up the Trent Canal towpath which was a bit bumpy in places but not too bad to cycle down - particular as it was flat/downhill and with a tailwind. Immediately after we split near Stone, the towpath stopped, so took a good marked routes (NCN5) beside the A34 and then continued on a pleasant, quiet road to Weston, then the A51 (fast) to Great Haywood. My planned route then led through Cannock Chase but this was a bumpy bridlepath uphill, so instead went back on the A51 to Rugeley, then the A420 uphill to Hednesford and finally downhill to Norton Canes. http://www.strava.com/activities/191343529
