Adventure Racing (RockstAR) 7:49:30 [3] 63.0 km (7:27 / km)

Usual start to the race with a hammerfest bike to the Hub. Chris and Andrew were fast and I was just hanging on. Once we were out in front on the technical trail we dialed it back 10% so that I could actually breathe. Finished the bike in 1 hour 15 minutes.

The rogaine map presented two options. Paddle with out and back runs, or run the whole thing. We went with a counter clockwise loop circumventing Bark Lake on foot. It involved a lot more running and some marshy bushwhacking but it was very doable. Enjoyed the SUP checkpoint as I got to use my recent SUP training!

The forest west side of Bark Lake ended up being quite thick and slow. But we got to the Hub between 4:30 and 5:00pm and then headed out for the CPs to the south of the Hub. Had it been a drier summer with marshes that were runnable I think we could have cleared the 4 CPs in the southwest part of the map. We took it conservative and dropped them, which ended up being ok. We had 30 minutes left at the end so took the canoe out for a 20 minute out and back paddle to the floating CP. Total points of 1600 which was good for top spot overall. A number of other teams were close, including Hammer/Tarno and FB/Will.

I do enjoy the strategy of rogaines. The orienteering was fun. I was suffering on the bike as I felt I just did not have power in my legs (perhaps due to the string of recent races that have worn on me). Chris and Andrew were strong as expected...they do not slow! STORM put on a great event - never a doubt! Ice cream at the Hub was a real treat. It was a great opportunity to reconnect with the UNE gang, and Heather gave us the most excellent welcome at registration!

Going to dial it back a little over the coming months. Only have a half marathon planned for end of September (my first road race ever!) and then a 8 hour rogaine in Gatineau Park at the end of October.

Running (Road) 23:00 [3]

Run over to Bushtuka to pick up my bike. Had an uncomfortable pack on with bike shoes, water bottle and helmet digging into my back.
7 PM

Biking (Road) 30:00 [3]

Logged at 50% because Squirt and were just touring around the neighbourhood looking at nice houses. Good sustained push at the end though.
