EUOC Big Weekend Classic Holyrood Park - Brown 8.3km

Routegadget

Definitely better than the last Big Weekend Classic race I did back in 2016. Improved nav and fitness. No major errors. A bit scrappy between 8 and 12 but felt strong the whole way. I may have got the long route choice wrong but I would be interested to see how long I would have taken to go the other way with the climb out of 20 and then up to 21. My route was either down or flat but longer.

Winsplits says 4:38 lost in total which was more than I was expecting but still happy with my run and concludes a good weekend for me.

EUOC Big Weekend Edinburgh City race - Course 1 6.9km

Routegadget

New area for the event; Dean Village featuring Edinburgh West and the Exchange. I had run at both Dean Village and the Exchange before so in my head I knew there wasn't really anything that could catch me out but it was if I could do it under pressure.

First 4 controls in Dean Village were scrappy with the 1:5000 scale but got out with no major losses and then I could settle. No issues going through exchange 1st time and no getting lost the 2nd time either but looking back at it I picked the longer route choice going south from 20.

Started planning the routes 27-38 on the 1:2000 map at 25 so was no major time losses either and looking at the splits my placings were consistently higher for these controls with only a 5s time loss on 36 not checking the side of the wall.

Very happy with my run only 1:04 time loss according to Winsplits.

EUOC FWTN Calton Hill - Long 6.0km

Routegadget

Didn't do too much geeking for this. I've run on Calton Hill enough times to know the best route choices. I forgot though about the narrow area south of the A road linking Calton Hill to the Killing Fields. Had I been prepared for that I probably wouldn't have wasted 14s figuring out how to get to the upper lever on 21. Main time loss though was 48s on #12 caused by dropping down too early thinking the path with a rail was the path marked on the map with a fence. Happy with my run though.
