Since things have been going ok fitness wise I was contemplating entering the Hamilton half marathon in November. That involves a substantial downhill section that’s supposed to be helpful but from experience I can say it isn’t. Unless maybe you train for it.

Et voila, this thing.

Still feeling the effects of this stupid cold and Jenn made me drink socially last night so today I felt like a bag of shit but had this in mind and wasn’t in the mood to compromise despite the foregoing. Got Jenn to drop me off at the start and then I’d see how it went.

I did most of the planned route and some of the planned pacing. The main thing was to try to identify a long descent and run the really downhilly bits harderish. I did enough of that to be satisfied for today’s purposes.

The route itself sucks. Too much traffic, noisy, smelly, lots of lights. I think I’ll try this from the 403 at Wilson in Ancaster and make my way downtown Dundas. For sure it’s a more pleasant prospect, ending at a coffee shop, I think it’s all downhill but it may not be very long.
