Best race of the season (so far)

Wasn't too impressed with my result on Saturday but was pretty excited when we got into the assembly area and looked up at the steep tough slopes (& cliffs)

Lazy morning waiting for my run before heading up to the start. Calves got a little tired on the way and there wasn't much space to warm up. Everyone had their Ravinen top on, it was a bit embarrassing.

Steady out of the start to one but got an alright split. Bit of a tedious zig-zaggy route to 2, got stuck in a bog for about 15s leaving 3 and only really started getting into it on the way to 5 and started to really enjoy it. The route in and out were the same so I was pleased (for me) to see Adam P in front but was scared of Jonny C catching me as I exited so cut into the green early so he wouldn't see me, he messed up 5 so it didn't matter anyway :).

Took a nice route to 6 but messed up the route into the control and lost about 40s. I can't remember the last time we had a good long leg like that. 7 ...yeah. The next few were all a bit slow but I was super on lucky on 9 to come out and turn the right way after running though the thick green with my head down and bad bearing.

Wanted to be really safe on 12 not just cut off when it felt right and risking drifting too far down too early. Wanted to come off the track at some thicker green and turn-back on myself towards the control but I overshot the green and had to dog-leg back a little, eventually dropped into the control as Jonny and Dag got there.

I don't like following so I pushed hard to 13 and went straight to 14 while they went round the top but we got the same splits. Dag and me pulled away (30s!) from Jonny up to 15 but were a bit slow going in. Could hear some noise behind me as we ran to 18 and turned round to see Jonny had caught us up again. Me and Jonny got carried away to 19 and should have thought a bit more instead of just pinning it downhill, realised where we were and turned left. Messed up the second last and was behind Jonny into the finish so it annoyingly looked like he'd caught me up and I just followed! (in reality he only got ahead at 21).

Such a good fun tough course especially after I got caught. I think me, JC and Tom would be pretty close with if 6-8 was removed as I was three mins down on them but took 8m to find seven instead of the 5 that they took. Ahead of Aiden. Impressive solo run by Peter.

Weirdly similar race to last year's JK; being caught by JC, then being pushed round, getting a gap on the last big climb before being caught again and pegging it downhill before screwing up the second last and trailing into the finish.

Orienteering race (JK Middle (Dunalistair)) 38:23 [5] 6.0 km (6:24 / km) +150m 5:41 / km

Very average. Never really felt comfortable and didn't get any sort of flow going. Messed up 8 & 18 the worst. Felt tired from ten until the finish. Bit too soft and wet underfoot perhaps.
