Orienteering event 20:40 [3] 3.0 km (6:53 / km)

RACE ANALYSIS: NOL FINAL

Another terrible race

Was first starter of the girls A final. Didn't check where north was while I was in the start block....
I ran 180 degrees the wrong way. By the time I had corrected myself I was over a minute down and had to chase down the girl who started after me. Not a good start. Corrected well and was running comfortably until control 8. Didn't read the program and so I avoided the underpass and took the road loosing about 15 seconds. Should have gone straight from 10 - 11 but took the longer route out to the road thinking it would be faster. lost another 15 seconds. was running strong and planning each leg before i got to it until control 14. Nearly ran into another competitor as i punched the control. exited the control and started running to 15 as i had planned but then had my map 180 degrees the wrong way again. I stopped and planted my feet. Could not get my bearings at all. I knew people were watching when added to my panic. finally found where i was and reached 15. lost over a minute here. nailed the last few controls but felt extremely shitty as i crossed the finish line.

Note

What have I learnt to do coming away from this carnival?
DO NOT forget the basics!! The majority of my mistakes were easily avoidable
- orientate map
- don't hesitate
- plan ahead
- keep a calm frame of mind and STOP STRESSING!!!!!!!!

Orienteering event race 14:43 [3] 3.0 km (4:54 / km)

RACE ANALYSIS: NOL RELAY
Smashed the first control 1 but then made a sight wrong turn executing my plan to number 2. Fumbled at 3 and didn't read my control description and punched the wrong control. Only picked up on my mistake because I ran past the right control on my route choice heading to number 4 which wasn't good. This made me wake up a bit and check my numbers for the rest of the controls because I didn't want to miss punch. Also made me slow down and go easy and try to nail the navigation for the rest of the course which in hindsight probably wasnt good because I made an effort to run slower when i probably could have done it faster.
No errors with controls 5,6 and 7. On 8 I didn't look where the control was inside the control circle again so lost about 20 seconds there. Rest of the course was fine with no mistakes. Overall happy with my run as it was relatively clean. Felt I could have pushed harder running wise but besides that it was okay

Orienteering event 18:27 [3] 3.0 km (6:09 / km)

RACE ANALYSIS: NOL Sprint Qual
Horrible horrible race.

You know when you've had a really bad race when your mistakes dont even show up in red on the splits!

Picked up the map and struggled to find the start and orientate the map. Was distraced in the start block which is probably why I was so flustered. once I got me calm fine and I could start to plan legs 2 and 3 while running but overall I lost about 15 seconds here. Nailed the second control. Third control was a bit slow in the control circle. was relatively fine for the fourth and fifth controls.
At control 6 everything went down hill... overshot it loosing 20 odd seconds. Didnt plan control 7. Stopped too short of the control which lost me about 30 seconds. Struggled to get my head back into the map.
Made mistakes for every single control up until Olivia caught me. Determined to stay in front of her I led her into the rest of the controls for the entire course. Wasn't fun at all.
