I think my orienteering may have suffered over the summer when I didn't do any. I made major mistakes today, mainly at controls 1, 8, 12 (I don't know what happened there! I started hearing the road and thought 'this is not right') and 21. I am sure the splits will show other mistakes as well. I got very tired by the end, but I remember enjoying myself for much of the course, despite the errors.

I taped the ankle before I went out, Youtube helped with that. I am glad to say that it went well that way.

Looking at Quick route I now see what happened at 12, I thought I was on a different trail and turned the wrong way. I had trouble with the trails out there at times.

An easy control pickup for ten controls.

I like morning runs, but Saturday morning waiting for sun-up in the fall is great. I felt very relaxed at my easy pace. My street was littered with other runners this morning.

I had to go back to Gay City and do those trails again. It was fun. I still have to walk a number of sections of it, but I think if I go back enough times, I am sure I can ride it all the way through. Really good day for it too!

Hit just some of the hills in Glastonbury, not many though. Now looking at the data, it appears as just one hill. My legs have become quite weak. I was feeling it on the climbs.

I also signed up for NAOC this morning. I wasn't sure about it because I waited so long. But after I determined it was only about a 3 hour drive for me, I decided that I could manage without lodging. The only thing is, I will miss the sprint on Sunday. I want to do it, but I thought that would be a bit too much as the starts are pretty early on Sunday.

Note

Wow, the GPS data seems much more precise than my handheld. Also, can anyone tell me, when I hit the lap button is that taking a waypoint as well? So is that what you would press while visiting a control?

Also, there is an intensity scale of 1-5 in the appendix of the Garmin manual. Is that what people use for the AP scale as well?

Having GPS right on your wrist is very cool. I found the instructions to be lacking, but I will learn more as I go.

It was quite cool this morning. I didn't see any other runners, but I did come across the newspaper delivery guy on my street. I almost rolled my ankle again on a piece of uneven pavement. Fortunately, I caught it quick enough without any pain, just fear. I went a different route this morning, but my plans got changed because of construction on Maple street. I didn't much like the route as I went back through the busy section of town.

Update: I found the real instruction manual. It is on the CD that came with it.

Note

Okay, now I have to exercise great patience as I have obtained a new Forerunner and it has to charge before I can start to really play with it. Alas, I will devour the instructions for now and keep close watch on the charging process.

I went with the 310 xt with the heart rate monitor, of course.

I wore my headlight this morning. It helped quite a bit, but I think I should replace the batteries. My ankle felt great this morning. Still staying on flat pavement for now.
