Lake Minnewanka trail with Tom, Heather, David M, Simon and Houda to the Aylmer bridge and back. Crossed paths with David A on the way back. Legs were really tired from yesterday but felt good at the turnaround. Walked a couple of the hardest hill sections. Felt pretty tired at the end but still held a good pace all day. Beer and food at Banff Brewing Company after.

Copper Bowl with Marcus. Parked at Castle Junction, squeezed through the gated fence and skinned up the summer trail toward Twin Lakes. After about 5 km, dropped off to the left around 2000 m elevation and headed SE to the drainage and the ridge/pass by the subpeak between Copper and Little Copper mountains. Did three runs including finishing with one off the west side of the subpeak. Staying a little more to skiers left off the start would get us into better spaced trees earlier on for this last run; we had to traverse. Short runs off the south aspect of the subpeak, only did about 100-180 metres, but snow was surprisingly good, not wind affected and it skied well. A long day of touring for a few short laps but the objective of the day was to just go explore and see if we would find anything good to ski at the back end, so this was a success. Aaaaaand, my new rock/adventure skis skied well! I’ve been on a little mission to pick up some rock skis so that I can go enjoy the shoulder season or explore new lines with no guarantees of not hitting rock bands etc, when I normally wouldn’t want to take my good skis out in marginal or uncertain conditions. Got a good deal on a pair of used Black Diamond Convert Carbon (105mm) with Dynafit Radical bindings. In better shape than what I was looking for as a rock ski, a nicer width than I expected, and super light which is a bonus that I already appreciate after this long day. And my skins from my Chargers work on them. Sweeeeeeet :)
Broke trail for about half the day. About 20 cm ski pen. Worked a pretty nice line up to the pass.
The ski back out was an adventure. The creeks are not filled in very much and deadfall is an obstacle, more of an issue when you are trying to glide down versus walking up. The summer trail had several roots and rocks poking out; nice to not have my nicer skis today (although I’m also quickly growing fond of the second pair). Out for 10.5 hours. Finished with headlamps; the PrincetonTec Byte I bought at REI down in the States with Revy last fall worked well and gives decent illumination.

16.1 Dirtbag intervals 8 x 3mins on the hill above Silvertip golf course. Steep and really hard. This hill is enough of a challenge to run once without stopping as part of an easier loop, nevermind hammering it eight times. A short break at the top, then jog down while recovering, and not much pause at the bottom before heading back up again.
Went out really fast and hard on the first two. Wasn't sure how sustainable this would be for six more repeats but managed to keep putting in hard efforts.
Woke up in the middle of the night, probably because I didn't eat anything after the workout.

Horseshoe with Carbon. Started up behind the house, across and up to Upper Horseshoe, back on lower and then across and up to our old return trail via Eagle Heights.
