Rockbound Lake with Carbon.
We've never been on this classic trail, so it was fun to see somewhere new. This trail goes up and up. It's a bit steeper than Healy Pass which we've been able to run continuously if we go slow, so we were curious to see how this would go. I went out a little quick and ended up hiking a few of the longer steep sections. On the return trip, we were surprised to see just how uphill it was. I'd be curious to go back and run it really slow with the goal of running the whole thing.
The wall of rock (the backside of Castle Mountain) behind the lake is quite dramatic. I will return someday to scramble up to Stuart Knob or the top of Castle. Today it was cloudy up top and you couldn't tell what the weather might do. It was surprisingly cold (10C) after our record heat on Friday.
A blast of rain came through this morning and helped clear some of the smoke out of the air. Thank goodness. I've been staying inside since Tuesday, being paranoid about irritating my lungs, and am getting cabin fever. It was good to get out and exercise again.
About 1:20 up, 1:00 down.
Into Banff for sushi (yum!) and a little bit of clothes shopping.

Mist Mountain with Slice and SilverFox.
We were all a little tired from all our activity, so I was happy with the easier pace. Hiked up via trail, then scrambled straight up some nice grippy rock slabs to the outlier peak. Hiked across a nice narrow ridge to the true summit and had great views all around. Cool to look back on the ridge we rode yesterday. Looking down the other side of the summit (where I was contemplating making a loop of it via Lipsett Col) it looks like a nasty scramble, I sure wouldn't want to go down it. Headed back to the saddle and had a great scree run down through small, deep scree. Stopped lower down to unload rocks, had a snowball fight on a patch of snow (we suck), and then jogged down the trail back to the car. A nice finish to a great weekend.
