Note

Well that didn't take long...received word that I successfully obtained a permit for my Wonderland circuit hike. eeeeeee!!! Not sure if it was my strategizing, low applicant numbers this year, or sheer luck. I told them I was very flexible on dates - that may have been key. I received my exact itinerary, except it was bumped up a week or so. I applied for the week of Sept. 10, but my permit spans Labor Day weekend. Fine w/ me - one less day to take off work.

I have a bit of gear purchasing to do - my 1990s backpacking stuff won't do. I am NOT schlepping a 35 pound pack like I did back then. Planning to go ultralight.
11 AM

Bike (gravel) 2:32:55 [3] 32.9 mi (12.9 mph) +866ft
shoes: Motobecane Fantom X Team Ti

Hamburg, Lost Valley doubletrack, Katy, lap around Klondike, more Katy, lap around Augusta, and back. Same experience as silkychrome! Temp dropped and rain fell so I kept pulling out all extra clothing - wisp jacket w/ hood under helmet was a lifesaver. So were the 4 dog poop bags I got at Klondike - very thankful for the little baggie stations there. Bagged hands and feet and was kinda/sorta/not really comfortable for the rest of the ride. Bags worked surprisingly well on the hands - could still grip bars, brake and shift. Feels like ages since I've ridden in normal weather.

Bike (computrainer) 1:00:24 [4] 14.9 mi (14.8 mph) +1285ft
ahr:133 max:157 shoes: Fuji Team

Power Up - not enough sleep and dragging big time but salvaged some good effort, so I was happy w/ that. Z3-4 hills w/ Z5 intervals tucked in. Perceived effort much harder than HR would indicate.
6 PM

Run (grass and track) 51:43 [3] 5.75 mi (9:00 / mi)
ahr:134 max:153 shoes: Hoka Challenger ATR 2 Grn/Aqua

Ft. Zum HS campus - about half track, half lumpy fields w/ little hills. MUCH better than Wed.
