Fairly diabolical race. More of a hill run than an orienteering race if the truth be told.

Start with a long path run to the first control, had most of the course sussed out at this stage. Solid up to 6, and made my first real mistake coming out of six going to seven. Somehow managed to cut up too early and had to fight my way up through the undergrowth rather than the ride through the green. Got the control itself well. At the same time, i mustn't have lost too much time as I met Colm at the path coming into 6 when i was leaving, yet i didn't see him again until he caught me coming into 8.
EDIT: how on earth was i only 47 second behind the fastest split to 7!?!?

Bit hesitant coming into the circle at 8, seemed like the control was far further east than i anticipated.
I had planned to go straight to 9, but leaving the control after about 50m i decided to drop to the path, through green. Saw Colm on the track waaaay ahead and couldn't believe how much time i lost fighting that little bit of green!
Control 9 was an out and out disaster, cut up at the turning circle on the path but managed to get dragged to the boulders/crags further south, messing about for ages. 5 mins slower than others on this leg (4 mins on the control, ~30 seconds from changing route, and prob 30 seconds just being slower than Colm/Conor. HAd to fight through a lot of crap going to 10. This is when i really hit the wall, a mixture of tiredness and frustration at getting 9 so badly wrong. Got 11 well but faffed about with 12 for ages. From here on it was scrappy tiredness, not really caring and just stumbling onwards. Getting up the hill with laurence and Darren at 16 was fun....

Randomly bumped into ndobbs. The one day i decide to quickly get chips for lunch and he's there judging me :'(
unscheduled rest day due to stupidly going out in the evening.
