running drills 19:10 [3]

Strength and agility with my friend Naomi. Lots of hopping. 3 circuits of various mixes of single-leg line hops in different directions, jumprope, 2-legged jumping over cones, jumping in and out of a box drawn in chalk (in various directions), mountain-climbers, and lunges/squats onto my balance disc.

core/legs 12:17 [1]

core with Naomi too. different planks, then back, then crunches, then hamstring planks, then bridges, then dog pees, might've missed some.

Running (mostly hard surfaces) 18:00 [3] 2.0 mi (9:00 / mi)

to Naomi's. This should put me at 35 for the week. Need to catch up logging, though.

orienteering (Corn Maze O') 32:10 [3] **** 2.81 km (11:27 / km)
ahr:126 spiked:15/20c

Classic distance.

This was the first race, and my strategy wasn't the best yet. I didn't see north lines, so I assumed the maze was oriented to the north. It wasn't.
Also, I tried to use rough bearings and simplifying, which didn't work very well. It was better to keep track of every single junction you went to, unless you were on an edge.

Running (mostly hard surfaces) warm up/down 10:56 [3] 1.27 mi (8:37 / mi)
ahr:142

orienteering (Corn Maze O') 22:28 [3] **** 2.09 km (10:45 / km)
spiked:12/14c

Relay, leg 2.

This time I didn't use the wrong north lines, but I was still trying to simplify too much. Spent about 5 minutes wandering around completely lost. It was really hard to relocate. Towards the end, I started following along at every junction, and I did much better.

orienteering (Corn Maze O') 20:02 [3] *** 2.17 km (9:14 / km)
spiked:10/12c

Night, run #2

orienteering (Corn Maze O') 18:37 [3] **** 2.17 km (8:35 / km)
spiked:12/12c

Night, Run #1.

Finally, the corn maze clicked for me! I followed along with both hands at every junction, and I never lost my place. Woohoo! It was a good feeling, going along somewhat slowly and clicking stuff off.

Running (mostly hard surfaces) (with backpack) 52:48 [3] 5.69 mi (9:17 / mi) +68m 8:57 / mi

Running home for work after MATLABbing like a boss.

I also got some revenge on the Moreau map by visualizing simplified routes including linear features. I forget how many controls, but it was the middle from team trials.

Need to find a new backpack, though. My regular one's too big, and my spike bag gave me rope burn:(

orienteering 1:00:00 [3] *** 5.0 mi (12:00 / mi)
spiked:21/21c

placeholder.

Haven't taken the placeholder down yet, but I'm updating the number of controls!

running drills 13:09 [3] 0.56 mi (23:29 / mi)
ahr:155

Wee!

Running (mostly trails/soft surfaces) (Hammond Pond ) 50:29 [3] 5.09 mi (9:55 / mi) +73m 9:30 / mi
ahr:157

Felt pretty good

Running (mostly hard surfaces) 37:07 [3] 4.08 mi (9:06 / mi)
ahr:142

Ran from lab after work so I could make it to a folk dancing thing in Copley before I went home. Fun! Wore my heart rate monitor just to get in the habit, and I noticed it took a long time to get up to my easy run HR. I only really did in the last mile. Maybe I can try running faster? Either way, I want to get my AHR on more easy runs and see how I feel at different paces.

In other news, I coded most of my first experiment in MATLAB/Psychtoolbox today. Woohoo!

orienteering 20:00 [3] 2.08 km (9:37 / km)
spiked:9/9c

Distance is straight-line since I forgot to charge my Garmin.
Fun course at Hammond Pond! It was in the rocky area and kept me on my toes. I wonder how hard it would be to convert all the symbols to ISOM.

Running (mostly trails/soft surfaces) 56:00 [3] 5.6 mi (10:00 / mi)

Distance estimated. Watch dead.
Hammond Pond. Pleasant running.

running drills 15:00 [3] 0.5 mi (29:59 / mi)

core/legs 10:14 [2]

Fun session today, almost all legs.
What I remember:

  • Lunges onto balance disc

  • Side squats onto balance disc

  • Dog pees

  • Donkey kicks

  • Plank w/ hamstring curls.

  • Prisoner squats

  • Bridges on balance disc

  • Russian twists

  • Supermans

  • Side-to-side single-leg line jumps

  • Front-to-back single-leg line jumps

  • Single leg balance drill

Once I get a little further into the season, I'll start doing lunge exchanges and more jumping stuff.
