orienteering 28:16 [3] **** 3.0 km (9:25 / km) +20m 9:07 / km
20c shoes: O' Shoes

Tricky and detailed, but really good training! Loved the pressure of running in a pack. My one embarrassing mistake was a 180 out of the control, but I recovered relatively quickly. More details to come. Hopefully.

orienteering (Line-O) 43:00 [3]
shoes: O' Shoes

Yayyy went running at Hammond Pond! I took the T to Newton Center, which I had to do anyway to get my running shoes and shampoo out of my car.

Line O'. I didn't start out with goals today. I figured I'd focus on getting a feel for what was mapped and what wasn't, and how the vegetation was. I could've used some more specific goals, like focusing on when to read ahead.

It was hard for me to look ahead, so in the thicker areas I was stopping a lot. Also, lots of mistakes and hard to run through the rocks and brush and stuff. But I did a good job getting a feel for what the boulders and cliffs looked like. Everybody's saying the orienteering will get old fast, but I think I could get a lot of mileage out of a test loop. It would be a good way to get used to running fast in the woods, and it would be fun to alternate w tempos :)

In the meantime, I should focus on having good habits while I'm running slower (planning when to read ahead, being precise with my compass, predicting what I'm about to see, sticking to my plans) and make sure to keep them up as I get in shape.

I was probably actually running for about 30 min.

Note
(rest day)

Made it to my friend's apartment, and my car made it to a free parking spot! Lori and Stephen also helped me prevent a foot injury with tape and ibuprofen:) Can't wait to go for my first run in Boston tomorrow morning!

orienteering race 32:59 [4]
17c

Morning Long sprint. I didn't feel fast, but no big errors. I'll probably do a more detailed analysis later, but my reading ahead and planning my exits from controls could be more rigorous.

orienteering (walked) 1:19:22 [3]
11c shoes: O' Shoes

Mt. Tom, short. Looking back, I don't think it was the best decision to go out. I didn't end up getting injured for more than 24 hours, but after already pushing the limits of what I'd been doing intensity-wise, I don't think all that climb was smart. I think I have a tendency to think that I can do as much walking as I want and not count it as training.

The butterfly loops were fun though, and I got some good practice reading ahead for them:)

orienteering race 21:59 [4] *** 2.8 km (7:51 / km) +70m 6:59 / km
18c shoes: gray and yellow mizunos

Yay first race/o course in a long time! Relatively clean navigation. Lost 10 seconds looking ahead too much and lost some time hesitating on 3 and 4. Hopefully I can get faster and still be relatively clean!
