Orienteering race (NSW Long champs) 1:59:45 [4] ***** 14.56 km (8:13 / km) +370m 7:18 / km
ahr:146 max:166 spiked:18/22c (injured) shoes: Inov-8 Mudclaw 333

blisters .. ouch ...

lost a1-2 mins on #3 .. overran a little high
lost map contact towards #5 (note this was a 2km leg), but had a rough idea where I was, slowed a few times to see if I could relocate on the way with no luck, but managed to hit and recognised a clearing in the gully 100m from the control

tried to keep map contact to 6 but was slowing down too much so decided just go for the big gully which I found, it was here that two blisters started to give me pain on both heels. the blisters were more noticeable on the next few controls as they were uphill.

unintentionally drifted wide from 10 to 11 but was able to run a bit faster and minimised some climb, The big dam made it obvious where i was, such a relief compared to being in the middle of the granite :)

made a much more deliberate route to 13 compared to 5, keeping contact and was heading straight for the control when i spied another close by and
got sucked in ... losing 1-2 mins

struggled to #15, tried to keep contact, but that made me change directions a few times and waste some time

15-16 - 150m in over 2 minutes .. and slightly downhill .. thanks to blisters ...

everything seemed to go as planned to #17 until the open area didn't look very open, decided there was a chance I hit the hill too high and drifted just below #19, decided to run South to hit the fence and relocate when i saw a glimpse of a control ... almost ignored it and relocated when i realised that it looked pretty close to where i would have expected if I was in the open area .. lucky the numbers matched !!

18-19 .. had enough of running through white .. tried to go through as much yellow and keep in contact.

smooth run to finish .. kept an eye on the clock as it was looking close to breaking 2 hrs .. put in a hard finish to break it by 15 secs :)

Orienteering (Easy) 1:21:00 [1] 2.5 km (32:24 / km) +50m 29:27 / km
(injured) shoes: Inov-8 Mudclaw 333

walk with family on easy course (found a Joey out of the pouch .. he came for a walk with us too) ..

The Joey was bald, eyes closed, couldn't move and calling out (Louisa heard the noises, then pointed it out to me and asked what it was)

there was no sign of any other roos, and I assumed it had fallen out, probably spooked by an orienteer on the easy or very easy course running along the fence.

It had a few scratches but didn't seem injured so we decided to take him with us and try to get him some help ..

I did see a fox on my way to #5 on my long course ... this would have been about 500-600m away .. I didn't want to leave the little Joey there :(

Orienteering race (NSW Middle champs) 46:00 [5] ***** 6.13 km (7:30 / km) +180m 6:33 / km
ahr:164 max:176 spiked:23/26c shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 340

Quickroute

Lost 2 mins on #1 and 1 min on #6 by heading in the right direction, then thinking I was somewhere else and turning 90 degrees

I felt my speed was ok for most of the run (except perhaps the hill to 6 .)

started to get a little cautious 16-18, found it hard to read the map (dark purple is used to not disadvantage some colour blind people)

stopped just short of 19 .. wasn't sure if I had run too far, slight mental lapse, lost 30 secs?

was fairly careful, but pretty happy with the effort on a very challenging terrain, would have been much better without the early errors though.

Orienteering race (Easy) 59:00 [1]

Louisa did a good job of navigating ..

started to feel a blister on Left heel ..

running (lunch run) 55:00 [3] 8.0 km (6:53 / km) +150m 6:17 / km
ahr:160 max:171 shoes: Inov-8 Mudclaw 333

run from Mac uni gym, christie park then GNW, turned around about 800m past Lane cove road, then back.

ran the first 2-3 ks a little too fast, struggled for pace for the rest.
underestimated the number of hills perhaps.

GYM (Aqua) (Aqua) 45:00 [3]

warm down in the pool via Aqua session.

running (Lunch run) 1:00:35 [3] 9.83 km (6:10 / km) +140m 5:45 / km
ahr:157 max:171 shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 340

attempted run around normal route, but it was closed due to hazard reduction burning yesterday, so investigated a few paths
MacUni to Busaco Rd via fields , went to the end of the track at the back of Mac uni fields but seemed to go nowhere, back to the fields then to Christie Park, on to the GNW over lane cove river, turned around about 100m short of lane cove road then back to uni via the sports fields

feet felt a little sore early with the Oroc's on the roads but were fine on the trails, may have to add insoles for long runs or any that requires some road running .. will need to see how the mudclaws go on a longer run
1 PM

GYM (Aqua) (Aqua) 55:00 [3]

drank 1.25L of water during the session ..
good cool down from the run, mainly upper body and AB work.
