12 PM

running warm up/down 20:00 [3] 2.5 km (8:00 / km)

Got well on way to start and realised had left my number in the car. Quick decision to run back for it, but meant the warm up was much much longer and faster than planned.

orienteering race 10:00 [3] 1.0 km (10:00 / km)

British Middle Champs. Got number on and to start with 1 minute to spare before going into the box. First few controls went well. Then walked back. Could really appreciate the area when I was walking.

orienteering race 12:29 [4] 2.5 km (5:00 / km) +5m 4:57 / km

British Sprints Champs Heat.
Good run. Kept in control and in contact. Good result. Won heat.
4 PM

orienteering race 12:18 [4] 2.0 km (6:09 / km) +15m 5:56 / km

Sprint Final. Very tense throughout, so scrappy run. Much less in synch than this morning. Distracted by orienteering car near me as I ran across car park to the control inside the hedge corner. Then at spectator control felt I couldn't finalise my decision to run back on myself, so just kept going. Then punched wrong control in final short loop so DQ. Shame I wasn't positive enough to double back as initially planned, as I would have picked up the correct control that way. If the time to the correct control is added, I was set for 8th place.

orienteering race 49:30 [4] 7.4 km (6:41 / km)

Army urban event at the Military Defence Academy, Shrivenham. Sent in ID in advance. Pre-ran the Blue course at around 10.30 before working on download until 14.15. Lovely weather. Straightforward urban course. Good for tempo run rather than navigation practice. Think I missed the optimum route choice on every occasion where there was more than one possibility. Only seconds in it though.
7 PM

orienteering race 53:30 [4] 8.4 km (6:22 / km) +100m 6:01 / km

TVOC evening street-o event. Left my reading glasses at home so couldn't read any control numbers or questions /answers while running, and hardly even when standing still. V frustrating. Cost quite a bit of time at every control. Carried Heather's new compass with magnifier with me, but the magnifier covered such a small area at a time it was slow reading. Good control sites and clues though, and wonderful food afterwards. Massive thank you to Heather.
Two 50ish minute urban events in one day...probably not ideal preparation for the British sprints at the weekend, either physically or technically.
