Ontario Champs Long Course. Definitely felt lack of conditioning, but really enjoy running and orienteering in Hilton Falls.
Really enjoyed the course, but took a few scenic routes. Running to one on the longer trail, and still manged to overshoot one, but coming back for two was fairly clean. Went cross country to the trails to then attack 3 from the north end of the cliffs (easy).
Bearing through the lovely woods over to 4, using the trail/bridge to cross the water/re-orient. Over to the trails and then took the trails to 5, and cross-country through 5-6-7. Followed by the long trail run back to 8.
Used the thick vegetation to orient off of to cross over to 8, but in some mindless/low blood sugar moment overran 8 and then somehow followed people up the hill (ouch). Doubling back to 8, it was a fairly straightforward run through 9, trail to 10, and off trail through 11-12.
I'm sure I took the trail to the north, going around the finger lake, and taking the main trail over to 13. 13-14-15 was pretty clear, although for whatever reason when I turned to leave 15 I got disoriented... looked at the compass and took its advise and was quickly back on the main trail to 16.
Somehow leaving 17 I must of taking an incorrect bearing to the north of 17, got a bit lost in there but after looking at the field and the features made a guess to the correct way to 17 and saved myself.
Took the trail around to attack 18 from the other side (not really a great choice) and then cross country through the remaining controls, trail to finish.
Wasn't the best run of my life, but I finished :-) ... and handled the terrain just fine. It was a great day in the woods.
[Dist map string, remember most of it. Climb is good enough, just looked at other logs rather than count contours... doesn't matter too much at this point]
