Quickroute

Ohhhh my. As easy as 1-2-3. NOT.

Coming off 1, I guess I didn't use my compass and I used the stream but followed the wrong one. Hit a trail and was wondering why it was there but then told myself it was the small trail (even though it looked too big and was going the wrong way on the wrong side of me) and so I hopped on it and was looking for the bend in the trail to find 2. Of course, I never reached the curve I was looking for and for a moment I thought I would never reach 2. Actually part of the reason I took so long to back track was that I was lazy and it seemed that it would be too far to go and i didn't want to believe that I would have to do it. I finally woke up when I stood at the edge of the map looking south and admitted that the hills in front of me were so high that I could only be where I was.

I was so sure I'd be safe from 2 to 3, taking the trail and hopping off at the obvious bend. I was keeping the slopes to my right but somehow found myself heading down down down... I knew it was wrong but I kept going down. It's stubbornness really. In hindsight, I think the problem was that I was not looking hard enough for the reentrant and I think I didn't think I was travelling so fast, or that the control was so close. There must be a Hua magnet down there because that's EXACTLY where I ended up looking for 2.

I remember well that dried up stream that I had to climb up as punishment to 3 from my past runs through BM.

The rest was not nearly as interesting as the first 3. Except perhaps when I attempted to save time by very slowly making my way across the marsh between 5 and 6, then wasting 5 minutes wringing the water out of my socks after punching in at 6. If I'm going to go through marshes to save time, I can't be worried about getting wet and I certainly need the right shoes and socks.

All said, I look forward to getting out there to try 1-2-3 again, backwards and forwards.

I doubt if I did 10K in central park the other day because it felt a lot harder and longer today and I only made it to 9.5K. On the plus side, I was able to enjoy a bit of the park on Ward/Randall Island this time!
