incredible day at the 116th Boston Marathon. Record breaking temperatures for 2012...kinda cool but doesn't make for a PB.
The day began with a 6AM bus from our hotel to the shuttle, from the shuttle it was an hour bus to Athletes Village. Awesome vibe. Everyone is so happy and eager to hear your story - where you're from, your qualifying race to how you slept. Honest. After 2 hours at AVillage you're off to the start according to your wave. More great vibes.
The entire race is wall to wall with the happiest fans ever - The Wellesley College Girls (1 mile of beautiful happy girls cheering their hearts out), Boston College (you can literally smell the booze when you're near), and Heatbreak Hill...it's unreal. Some highlighted signs from fans included: 'You trained longer then Kim Kardashian's wedding lasted', 'You're f*&$%#@ amazing' (minus the bleeping), 'FASTER FASTER FASTER - that's what she said...', and 'you eat Heartbreak hills for breakfast!'
So many people had sprinklers and thoughtful people were handing out ice (instant magicl). I managed to see my family out on the course twice which was pretty impressive given the conditions and the amount of fans!
A tough hot go all around, it was hard to accept that after 5km it was pure survival. Even after running on Georgian Peaks and Scenic Caves I was still impressed by the downhills. I thought I ran heatbreak Hill twice before I even got there ;) ooopsie.
Awesome times, happy to go back to get my pb in b and maybe enjoy some cooler temps. I did get the jacket and I'm fully prepared to take all the piss I get next time I'm wearing it ;)
