orienteering (Ocup ) 1:20:00 [2]

I almost feel bad calling this 'orienteering' but it was my intentions.

Pre warned that this was going to be a tough area to navigate so I went into it nervous. Reminded to take lots of bearings and ignor the smaller trails.

Plan of attack in the first star: a,d,c,b,f ...reality: a, tried for d with no success. Tried for f. Yikes. Back to a and mucked about f, b and back to the finish. I didn't even attempt map 2.

I did learn that my bearing will only take me somewhat close to the cp and that once I'm close, I need to learn to use the features rather than rely completely on my bearing...man...c'est la vie!

Totally determined to gain my confidence back I asked Bob to take me back out and successfully find some controls. Now I'll sleep tonight!

I almost bailed on this run but Double_Down wasn't having any of it...partypooper.

Ended with coffee and donuts, which is never a bad thing...now it's time to surprise the shit out of getawaystix!

orienteering 1:38:00 [3]

Beautiful snowy morning at the Ocup Kick off. Endurance Ocup set by DD11 gave us good bang for our buck! Box 1, I dropped A and B. Quite the hiccup with E (I was clearly on the wrong hilltop) and with F, I was worried about getting tangled up in the fence so I detoured back passing D then onto the trail. Meh.

Hurried past the intermittent trail to 12...oops then set out for 13a but quickly changed plan when I realized 13b would be a better first choice. 2nd box I dropped a&b and almost forgot about g only to catch an additional hill repeat. Nice face plant in the second box coming down the ski hill but unfortunately I had nobody to share it with.

Thanks, DD11 for all your hard work and for the excellent door prizes. According to Funderstorm, I got some tasty brew!!

trail running 2:09:00 [3] 21.29 km (6:04 / km)

With DD11. He gave me the gentle pat on the back when I bailed and cried. I'm sure under his breath it sounded more like "suck it up, Nancy..." Sorry for being so dramatic!

Beautiful weather, slightly overdressed.

Funderstorm - I finally downloaded 1989. It's top shelf. I listened to the album twice and still can't decide on my favourite tune. Obviously Shake it Off is up there but How you get the girl may be the forerunner?

At Kelso. First half with Bob and Ursula then we dropped Bob only to be too chicken to go much further in the dark since a pack of deer startled us.

orienteering (Raid the Hammer) 5:02:00 [3] 31.0 km (9:45 / km)

Scooped up a team on Thursday since Rob had his appendix out the day before.

Great day, out longer than we bargained for...mostly due to cp 7 - we fell into the temptation of the flagging tape from a possible huntcamp (I think we lost about 16 minutes!). That and the matrix (finding C caused some unnecessary climbs haha)

Great climbing and good time on the legs :) even with long tights my legs are pretty scratched up! I enjoyed the relay but not so much walk the line (Bob said its because I struggled with the nav...that may be true...)

Thanks, Hammer & Anvil! For all your efforts - what a great day in the woods!

Aiming for 3 hours but between my nagging IT and Bob on a timeframe we cut it short. Also, when did peanutbutter cups get so small?! The end.
