biking race (Day 3 - Crank the Shield) 5:20:00 [5] 75.0 km (14.1 kph)

Nice prologue ride where fb graciously kept me company...what he didn't know was that I drafted off him for a good chunk to Sir Sam's. Sucker.
Weather was perfect and we totally deserved it after yesterday! Started with super fun single track through Sir Sam's. Up and down and up and down. Loved this riding. Road stretch to Hydrocut which I loved even more the second time around. After 40km my luck ran out and I had a bike mechanical - must have damaged my derailleur as it lost a pin and continued to enter into my spokes. 2 lovely guys helped me out only to realize that every time I switched gears the same thing would happen. Ugh. I decided it was too close to the finish to let a ridiculous bike mechanical ruin my day so off I went with both rings in the middle. Well...it wasn't flat and there was still 17km of single track - I ran a shit ton of hills while pushing my bike and threatened to leave it for the bears. I went to some tough places and cried a couple times but I earned a hell of an ice cream cone tonight. Tough 3 days for anyone - both physically and mentally.

thanks, fb for waiting around for me at the finish - he won't admit it but he did awesome.

Definitely would do this race again in a heart beat. Such a great weekend!

biking (Day 2 - Crank the Shiel) 4:30:00 [4] 55.0 km (12.2 kph)

Day two was up there for character building. The day started in the rain and I was unprepared for the weather. Thankfully Bob had extra gortex pants/jacket (such a gentleman). Poured. Rain. All. Day. We went straight into some gnarly single track which isn't always fun when you're middle of the pack...it was torn to shit. I'm not a terrible rider but this wasn't fun. It was a total mudfest.

Suffered through to Camp Wanakita where I was already having thoughts of pulling out. The aid staff mentioned 'less than 20 km to go" and I knew I could finish. Came through to the second aid station and Adam mentioned he's cutting people off in 5 minutes. That was enough for me to pull the shoot...it was a cold, wet, and extremely lonely day out there and I still wanted to have a decent ride tomorrow.

biking race (Day 1 - Crank the Shield) 5:25:00 [4] 70.0 km (12.9 kph)

Day one went as expected...I was cautious and only tried to make time where I could. Excellent start time, almost perfect conditions and my clothing choice was bang on. Nutrition was neglected too early but took care of myself in the evening to make up for it. We started in Haliburton Forest with some super fun but extremely muddy single track (or at least what I thought was extremely muddy...the calm before the storm?), onto the Hydrocut which was my most favourite riding all weekend. Quick road section into the back side of Sir Sam's where we finished at Camp White Pine. Super fun post race treats like beer, food, massages and stories from fb's day.
