(injured) (rest day)

Still in the Lakes. Originally had planned to take part in the Kendal Urban Orienteering race, but had forgotten to pre-enter and then decided that it would be a far better idea to rest my knee anyway. Hoping to sort this out by the time of the cup final on Sunday! Great weekend, really good fun. Just frustrating that I was not able to really race!

Pub-quiz question that evening - Which country invented orinteering? :-)

Orienteering race (British Relays) 31:50 [3] *** 4.8 km (6:38 / km) +120m 5:54 / km
(injured) shoes: Brooks Ghost 4

British Relay Championships in the Lake District. Final runner on Men's Short - 4.2km, 155m climb
Decided to try and run a little on Sunday despite the fact that I still can't bend my right knee more than 25* without pain. The first few controls were very slow as I was still at a gentle/jog walk... after the 5th control my knee began to warm up a bit and seemed to allow me to move a bit more freely. The 6th was my only error where I was under the impression to have already covered the distance to the control and slowed down. Turns out I wasn't quite there yet, so probably dropped 30-60secs. Otherwise no errors. Only lost 15seconds on the best time for my gaffle on the last 7 controls, but sadly unable to catch the team 2 seconds in front, as they had a shorter final gaffle.
Good fun, but my knee didn't like the additional exercise at all. Some slight swelling around now as well

Orienteering race (British Long Distance) 2:37:09 [4] **** 15.2 km (10:20 / km) +500m 8:53 / km
(injured) shoes: Brooks Ghost 4

British Long Distance Orienteering Championships in the Lake District: 12.7km, 550m climb
Decided to travel up for the weekend despite the fact that my knee still hurts when I bend it or sit.... Bad Idea!
The first control was alright, but my knee pain started soon thereafter (particularly going down hills on the uneven ground). Also hit the (increasingly usual) problem of my feet going numb after longer climbs. Decided after the 3rd control that I wasn't going to be able to race, but was still keen to complete the course (although cutting off from 7 to 14 did seem tempting).
Overall, no technical problems (maybe because I was going so slowly). Made three or four minor errors (which would usual account for 30 seconds each, but account for slightly more due to the pace I was moving at), particularly on controls 18 and 20. The longest ever time I've spent on an orienteering course. Very frustrated not to be able to run!

Still can't walk downstairs without pain. My right kneecap is hurting a lot when I'm sitting and when I get up
