L Knee, Iliotibial Band Syndrome

2006-12-06 – 2007-01-09

Grade: 2

Pain anterolateral to left knee only when I run. I had been increasing my running intensity for about a month before it started. Took 4 days off at first, went for an easy run and it seemed to be ok but then I stopped running for a couple of minutes and tried to start again and it hurt pretty bad. Had my roomate (also a physio student) do the IT band tests on me and they were positive. Looked up treatment and it said glut med strengthening (abduction), icing and cross-friction massage and stretching. And of course decreasing mileage and intensity, arg. Had my roomate do deep tissue massage on it (owwww).

I'm calling it healed now b/c it hasn't bothered me in at least a week:) Cutting back on the training was the only thing that really helped - along with some deep tissue massage (oww), stretching more.
