2008-08-08 – 2009-01-24

Grade: 2

Dr. says new MRI shows a fracture or "osteochondral defect" in the talus bone of the ankle. According to my research this likely comes from an old sprain. He says that there is no loose bone and has prescribed a "boot" cast and crutches.
Begun "bone stimulator" 9/18
stopped crutches/boot 10/14
rec'vd orthotics 10/29
first run 11/7
2 runs and 1 O in the last 7 days 11/26
a brief return to some pain on the outside of ankle one week ago but now running fairly regularly 12/08
turned my ankle again this wkend 12/14
ran at 10k 12/20

causes: tight calfs + wear/tear on foot joints talus/tibia & metarsal/talus + a few bad sprains due to foot rolling outward, which running shoes w/ too much padding on the heel contributed to
recovery: resting the foot, but not stopping fitness activites + continuing biking & swimming + immobilization cast + bone stimulator device, which continues to seem to help w/ "clicking" as well as any other soft tissue related pain (even though its not supposed to be used for that) + good orthotics
