L Knee, Iliotibial Band Syndrome

2008-05-22 – 2008-06-27

Grade: 1

IT band syndrome has returned after 19 years! Common amongst trained ballerinas and runners. Mine was caused from doing ballent and running for cross country and track in jr. high. PT resolved the issue. IT band started to bug me in March. Acts up the first mile into a run and then goes away. I am compensating for it elsewhere, like my kneecaps. Starting PT on May 29.

Cause - Went into training too fast and hard (picked up speed quickly and doing lots of races); had not been running for years due to back/neck/hip injuries incurred from auto accident. Progressed too quickly before body could strengthen.

PT resolved it, in addition to some massage therapy sessions; daily exercises and stretching, and 5 minute pre-run warm up follow by 10-minute post-run cool down walk and lots of stretching.
