L Foot, Other

2008-04-26 – 2008-07-09

Grade: 3

Inside of L-ankle is bruised and swollen. First noticed it around mile 21 of the Derby Marathon. Painful on every footstrike, and painful to walk on as well. Dorsiflexion is less bothersome than the other way around.

Cause is unclear. I don't remember kicking myself with the other foot, nor bashing into a stick or rock during the run. One possible explanation is having tied my shoelaces too tight.

From a quick researh at sportsinjuryclinic.net, this could be a Tibialis Posterior Syndrome or a Stress Fracture of the Medial Malleolus.

Update from 5/15: tendonitis, possibly of the TP tendon, due to tight achilles and overpronation of feet. R.I.C.E. plus NSAID, also recommended heel raise and arch support.

Typical R.I.C.E. treatment, plus NSAID for a little while. Still haven't worn any extra arch support with shoes yet, and so far no relapses. But I'll probably look into getting a pair of Power Step.
