R Knee, Iliotibial Band Syndrome

2008-01-12 – 2008-01-21

Grade: 1

Not certain it is ITBS, but it sure feels like it. Was aware of clicking tendon on outside of R knee at the start of my run on 12-1-08, but it soon abated as I continued running. Spent the rest of the day walking quite a long way around town and it got worse. By the evening it hurt every time I bent the knee beyond a certain angle. I can feel the tendon/ligament 'clicking' over the bone. Just like when I had ITBS in 2006, but on the other knee this time. By bed time it was very sore and felt just like the peak of my previous ITBS. I stretched well hoping it would relieve it over night.

Would be surprised if it is ITBS as I've been stretching every day since the last time, just as the physio told me. And this is my 'good' side according to the physio. It was left side that was all tight and inflexible.

Hopefully it simply got irritated by my running hungover without warming up properly.

Today (13-1-08) the pain had gone by morning, but was still niggling while walking around. Ran on it anyway figuring that I could run on it with no real issues and would be able to rest it for 2 weeks if need be. Doesn't feel too bad now, following a good long stretch, but it's still gently reminding me it's unhappy.

Not sure whether it ever was ITB or tendonitis as Annabelle suggested. Still, a week's total rest, daily stretching (which I always do anyway), daily icing and massaging seemed to do the trick.
