L Lower Leg, Calf Strain

2016-01-29 – 2016-01-31

Grade: 1

very strange injury, not sure I've ever experienced this. last night, out of a dead sleep, I woke up with a cramp in my left calf and bottom of my foot up to my toes, which I reflexively reacted to by extending my leg, which I think pulled the soleus, inner calf muscle. I've had problems with the soleus on both sides before, but never had one pull in the middle of my sleep! no hint of problems on the left side on yesterdays run or the day before. just the right achilles, so I can only surmise I was subconciously compensating. anyway, the calf still hurt this morning, even a sharp pain, so I put some heat on it and felt better, enough to do some lifting, but really did not want to run on it, so rode the bike in. fine on the bike. want to nip this in the bud.

I'm going to call this recovered since I feel no pain or tightness in the L soleus before, during or after the run this morning. I did several sessions of alternating ice and heat (Body Comfort pads) Fri and Sat so I think that helped. and of course, rested from running, so rest, ice and heat. no elevation, compression or anti-inflammatory meds needed.
