trail 42:50 intensity: (26 @1) + (56 @2) + (14:29 @3) + (15:23 @4) + (11:36 @5) 2.71 mi (15:48 / mi) +107m 14:05 / mi
ahr:135 max:161

Well, would you look at that! I had a plan and I stuck to it this weekend.

Very happy with this outing, especially given how sore I was last night. But I felt good this morning. Yay. Did 150/100 paces jogging/walking.

Friday Feb 19, 2016 »

3 PM

hiking 54:32 [3] 2.7 mi (20:12 / mi) +112m 17:53 / mi

A quick hike around the meadow loop. Most of the trail was fine although there were a few muddy sections.

While I haven't gotten outside to exercise or done anything sustained inside, I have been doing a ton of pt exercises. I do them in pieces - while my coffee is brewing, while I'm heating something in the microwave, when I've been sitting for a while and want to stretch - all day long. I should do them all at once some time to see how long it takes to get through them all. Some are ones I've started doing on my own (knee bends and neck stretches and squats) and some are from the pt for my shoulder. I've been pretty good about doing them every day. I'm not sure if there's any overall improvement, but I think so. Once I get my shoulder under control, I may see if she has suggestions for my hips which are also starting to bug me.

10 AM

trail 43:18 [3] 2.78 mi (15:35 / mi) +102m 13:59 / mi

Well what do you know. One, I actually got out the door this morning before heading in to work knowing I have to stay until 7 or 8 tonight. Two, I actually felt like jogging a bit and so did the normal walk 100 paces, jog a 100 paces when I haven't run for a while. And three, I must so out of shape or else my knees are doing super or else the snow made a beautiful soft carpet for running, since the downhills were actually easier than the uphills for the first time in as long as I can remember. Great day. I will not let work get me down!

Thursday Feb 4, 2016 »

4 PM

hiking 54:35 intensity: (2:29 @1) + (11:17 @2) + (39:44 @3) + (1:05 @4) 2.72 mi (20:04 / mi) +109m 17:51 / mi
ahr:115 max:133

A pleasant hike around the meadow loop; hardly any snow left on the trails and they weren't too, too muddy either. But it's been a couple of stressful days at work so I didn't have much oomph and certainly not enough mental stamina to do more than hike.

Tuesday Feb 2, 2016 »

hiking 1:01:08 intensity: (9:27 @1) + (25:42 @2) + (25:59 @3) 2.69 mi (22:44 / mi) +110m 20:11 / mi
ahr:108 max:127

Got home early enough to get out before dark. Nothing inspired but at least it was something.

ahr:148 max:168

Felt surprisingly peppy and decided to give a run a try.

ahr:140 max:160

Meadow loop with Sandy. Jogged all but two sections and talked most of the way. Had to go pretty slowly but that's what I've got in me at the moment.

Sunday Nov 1, 2015 »

10 AM

trail 45:41 intensity: (3:25 @1) + (27 @2) + (7:37 @3) + (29:33 @4) + (4:39 @5) 2.79 mi (16:22 / mi) +119m 14:27 / mi
ahr:132 max:157

Meadow loop with Sandy with some actual jogging taking place. We'll see how my knee feels tomorrow.

Thursday Jul 16, 2015 »

5 PM

trail 44:50 intensity: (5:32 @1) + (22 @2) + (4:01 @3) + (13:06 @4) + (21:49 @5) 2.88 mi (15:33 / mi) +87m 14:13 / mi
ahr:139 max:164

Met Sandy and did the meadow loop. Felt decent but couldn't keep up a jog for the whole thing. But did a lot and all the big hills.

Thursday Jul 2, 2015 »

5 PM

hiking 1:05:05 intensity: (25:34 @1) + (28:51 @2) + (10:40 @3) 2.96 mi (22:00 / mi) +115m 19:38 / mi
ahr:102 max:118

Nice slow stroll around the meadow loop with Sandy. My new brace was squeaking like crazy and I had to adjust it several times until I got it so it would stay put.

Saturday May 23, 2015 »

1 PM

trail 40:32 intensity: (2:34 @1) + (27 @2) + (6:38 @3) + (5:22 @4) + (25:31 @5) 2.81 mi (14:26 / mi) +98m 13:01 / mi
ahr:145 max:167

Trail "run" with Sandy. Very slow pace but we stuck to the plan and never walked. Go us!

The pace is a little misleading - but not much - since it includes the walk to and from the trailhead.

It is so bizarre that I can do this and my knee doesn't hurt a bit but this morning going up and down the stairs I couldn't put weight on the leg.

Thursday May 7, 2015 »

4 PM

trail 42:18 intensity: (3:26 @1) + (5 @2) + (4:43 @3) + (15:21 @4) + (18:43 @5) 2.84 mi (14:54 / mi) +98m 13:27 / mi
ahr:138 max:156

So close to not doing anything when I got home but managed to get myself going and then had a pretty decent workout. I jogged - very, very slowly - the meadow loop from the trailhead and back, just walking the road parts from and to my house. I kept telling myself if I walked any of the hills on the trail I would have to run the road and that was enough to get me up the first two and then I just sort of zoned out and didn't really think too much about the rest of it. I think it is probably the first time I have jogged the whole thing in about a year.

My knees have been pretty good this week considering West Point last weekend. Hopefully this won't be a step back.

Tuesday Apr 28, 2015 »

5 PM

trail 43:52 [3] 3.02 mi (14:32 / mi) +85m 13:21 / mi

Nice run with Sandy. Ran some of the ups but walked some too.

Wednesday Mar 25, 2015 »

10 AM

trail 43:44 [3] 2.79 mi (15:41 / mi) +86m 14:19 / mi
weight:120lbs

Tried to just take it easy so as not to injure myself any further. I have fairly low expectations for the weekend as running for more than 100m at a time is not feasible at the moment. I almost decided to bag the whole weekend and stay home but decided that I would most likely enjoy the atmosphere and staying at the lodge and just being in some new terrain.

It's been a crappy couple of weeks: the stress of the A event and getting ready for the Billygoat meant a little less sleep than usual, I haven't been exercising as regularly as I would like, there are some annoying things at work that just won't get resolved and then the kicker, my son and daughter-in-law are facing a new cancer diagnosis. She starts chemo next week.

Sunday Mar 15, 2015 »

1 PM

trail 46:47 intensity: (3:10 @1) + (16 @2) + (20:54 @3) + (19:45 @4) + (2:42 @5) 2.8 mi (16:43 / mi) +95m 15:07 / mi
ahr:128 max:154

Meadow loop with Sandy, mostly hiking but some jogging.

Then finally got around to cleaning up the zebra grass that I never cut back last fall and which had died and was breaking off and blowing all over my neighbor's yard. Still need to trim it back to the ground, but got most of the stuff that makes a mess.

Wednesday Mar 4, 2015 »

11 AM

trail 46:17 intensity: (24 @1) + (2:23 @2) + (51 @3) + (18:14 @4) + (24:25 @5) 2.8 mi (16:30 / mi) +85m 15:05 / mi
ahr:145 max:162

Worked at home this morning then shoveled the slush off the walkways. It was so nice out that I decided I had time to squeeze in a run. Well, a walk/run. It really was nice out - sorta sunny, and so warm compared to recently. Went without a hat or gloves and just one extra layer and it was definitely the right call. Assumed my feet would be soaked by the end so sloshed through all the muck without worrying about it. A bit of slipping around but overall not bad. Knee didn't like it much but that's what ibuprofen is for.

Thursday Feb 26, 2015 »

4 PM

trail 51:41 intensity: (49 @1) + (3:35 @2) + (9:11 @3) + (23:26 @4) + (14:40 @5) 2.86 mi (18:06 / mi) +100m 16:19 / mi
ahr:135 max:159 weight:120.6lbs

Tried to jog in places where the footing wasn't too bad which wasn't that many but then again I'm so not used to running that it was probably a good balance.

Sunday Feb 22, 2015 »

1 PM

hiking 1:01:55 intensity: (6:31 @1) + (14:30 @2) + (35:29 @3) + (5:25 @4) 2.82 mi (21:56 / mi) +99m 19:47 / mi
ahr:114 max:137 weight:121.8lbs

That was hard work! The trails are a slush fest and even with my studded shoes I was slipping a lot.

There is so much water with no where to go - it will be solid ice after tonight's low temperatures for sure.

Saturday Feb 7, 2015 »

3 PM

trail 43:57 intensity: (29 @1) + (2:40 @2) + (3:54 @3) + (14:15 @4) + (22:39 @5) 2.71 mi (16:13 / mi) +90m 14:42 / mi
ahr:141 max:159 weight:125lbs

I decided to walk over to the trailhead and back from the trailhead and not jog on the road. Besides being better for my knee, it gives me a little chance to warm up and cool down. I kind of liked this and will most likely stick to it.

Jogged the whole loop, going as slowly as I needed to in order not to walk. That was the plan and I stuck to the plan. That is my mantra for the month.

Unfortunately, I did not stick to the plan in regards to eating and indulged a bit last night while attending a school function. Unsurprisingly it showed on the scale this morning. Three light days of exercising in a row probably didn't help either. But, a mental break was not a bad thing in the long run most likely.

Thursday Jan 29, 2015 »

3 PM

walk/jog 45:04 intensity: (10 @1) + (15 @2) + (11:16 @3) + (21:59 @4) + (11:24 @5) 2.84 mi (15:52 / mi) +89m 14:28 / mi
ahr:139 max:179

Disappointed I didn't feel any better than Tuesday. Despite how slowly I go I wonder if I need to warm up more by walking first for a while before trying to jog. I actually felt better towards the end of this but by then had decided on the walk 100 paces, jog a 100 paces routine and I decided to just stick to it.

Trails a little worse than Tuesday - the ruts are back again. But the new icebugs worked great.

Tuesday Jan 27, 2015 »

4 PM

trail 43:02 intensity: (4:02 @1) + (6 @2) + (20 @3) + (11:10 @4) + (27:24 @5) 2.84 mi (15:09 / mi) +86m 13:51 / mi
ahr:152 max:194

The trails were in decent shape; the snow filled in all the ruts and there had been enough people out that it was pretty packed down. There were a few spots where I could see that there was ice under the inch or so of snow but I had on my new icebugs with studs and had no problems. I like my new shoes!

Was expecting to go for a snowshoe outing but, alas, the predicted snow blizzard never came. Ah well.

Felt pretty crappy and was reduced to alternating jogging and walking for the second half. I like how that is really obvious from the data. I also have noticed that my heart rate spikes really high when I first start out. I wonder what, if anything, that means.

Thursday Jan 22, 2015 »

4 PM

trail 40:50 intensity: (12 @0) + (38 @1) + (10 @3) + (7:48 @4) + (32:02 @5) 2.65 mi (15:24 / mi) +77m 14:07 / mi
ahr:152 max:183

Ran a little more than on Tuesday but the trails, in the meadow especially, are still really muddy and torn up by bikes and horses.

Tuesday Jan 20, 2015 »

4 PM

trail 47:09 intensity: (1 @0) + (45 @1) + (1:33 @2) + (6:10 @3) + (15:01 @4) + (23:39 @5) 3.04 mi (15:31 / mi) +95m 14:08 / mi
ahr:142 max:176

Oh yeah, we were tough. We got out in the rain and the mud and did the workout. Although we were not so tough that we didn't walk a bunch of the meadow that was really slippery.

A miracle: I no longer have to teach the Tuesday night class that I thought I was going to have cover.

Sunday Jan 4, 2015 »

11 AM

hiking 45:56 intensity: (1 @0) + (50 @1) + (5 @2) + (7:00 @3) + (27:38 @4) + (10:22 @5) 2.82 mi (16:16 / mi) +95m 14:43 / mi
ahr:137 max:156

hike with Sandy with a little bit of jogging on the downhills and flats

Sunday Dec 21, 2014 »

1 PM

trail 46:10 [3] 2.98 mi (15:29 / mi) +98m 14:03 / mi

Meadow loop with Sandy. Jogged some of it but walked all the uphills and even some of the flats.

Saturday Sep 6, 2014 »

1 PM

trail 40:12 intensity: (2 @0) + (18 @1) + (16 @2) + (3:02 @3) + (7:49 @4) + (28:45 @5) 2.75 mi (14:37 / mi) +89m 13:17 / mi
ahr:149 max:166

Tried to run the whole thing again but at the top of one of the hills I just started walking. After a mental struggle with running again I opted for 100 paces jogging/100 walking and did that until I got home. The overall time was faster than the last attempt even with the walking.

Knees continue to be about the same now that I've started doing the running in the shoes with the nice wide forefoot.

Saturday Aug 30, 2014 »

3 PM

trail 42:18 intensity: (13 @1) + (3 @2) + (2:38 @3) + (12:03 @4) + (27:21 @5) 2.81 mi (15:03 / mi) +96m 13:37 / mi
ahr:147 max:165

I am planning to go to 4 A events plus NAOC this fall. I decided to see if I had any jogging left in my knees. I also decided that the new icebugs were causing some problems so I wore one of the icebugs I usually wear to orienteer. Success all around - my knees don't hurt any more than usual and I was able to jog the whole meadow loop. It wasn't pretty - I was really slogging along like an old lady (oh wait, I am an old lady, so no problem there) - and I got it done. The plan was to go as slow as necessary to not stop jogging and that's what I did. Quads are sore, but not knees. Yay.

Now I need to find a way to get more pairs of the old style icebugs. Every place that I've found in the US that sells icebugs on line does not have my size or does not have the style I want.

Thursday Apr 10, 2014 »

6 PM

trail 36:37 intensity: (2 @0) + (7 @1) + (22 @2) + (1:16 @3) + (9:32 @4) + (25:18 @5) 2.8 mi (13:03 / mi) +96m 11:48 / mi
ahr:148 max:163

West Point is going to be hard!

Wednesday Apr 2, 2014 »

3 PM

trail 37:11 intensity: (1 @0) + (19 @1) + (17 @2) + (2:03 @3) + (9:37 @4) + (24:54 @5) 2.86 mi (13:00 / mi) +100m 11:44 / mi
ahr:148 max:165

A beautiful day. I ran in regular trail shoes instead of my icebugs and felt very tentative. I also like the thicker cushioning I have in the icebugs for the road sections.

Managed to run, i.e. not walk, the whole thing. Progress.

Tuesday Mar 25, 2014 »

1 PM

trail 39:23 [3] 2.75 mi (14:19 / mi) +99m 12:53 / mi

An early tnt with Sandy and Ann. Jogged the meadow loop. I am working on the mental discipline to just keep going and not walking regardless of how slowly I have to plod along.

Had a massage this morning which made a huge difference in the tightness in my neck and shoulders. Now to get back into a routine of using the rollers on a regular basis.

Saturday Mar 22, 2014 »

2 PM

trail 37:40 intensity: (21 @1) + (16 @2) + (2:49 @3) + (8:06 @4) + (26:08 @5) 2.79 mi (13:30 / mi) +97m 12:11 / mi
ahr:147 max:162

It was so warm out - about 60F - that I pushed a little harder. Hopefully not too hard. Need to mentally be prepared to run the road all the way to my house and not stop at the crosswalk the next time.

Thursday Mar 20, 2014 »

9 AM

trail 42:26 intensity: (1 @0) + (1:38 @1) + (52 @2) + (5:10 @3) + (7:46 @4) + (26:59 @5) 2.81 mi (15:05 / mi) +97m 13:37 / mi
ahr:143 max:163 weight:120lbs

Boo on the weight. (Another long car ride yesterday to go visit an elderly relative.)

Yay on getting out there and jogging the whole loop; thanks Sandy, you always set a good pace.

My heart rate: bippity, bippity, bippity

Sunday Mar 9, 2014 »

1 PM

trail 48:26 intensity: (23 @1) + (3:19 @2) + (10:34 @3) + (23:44 @4) + (10:26 @5) 2.77 mi (17:28 / mi) +95m 15:47 / mi
ahr:135 max:152

Tried to jog the meadow loop with Sandy but there was still too much slush and we had to walk a bunch. But we did get out there and do it. Got to start somewhere.

Wednesday Nov 20, 2013 »

11 AM

hiking 52:23 [3] 2.73 mi (19:10 / mi) +96m 17:17 / mi
weight:127lbs

OK - back to the regular training. Didn't want to overdo it the first day, so just a leisurely hike through the Wiss.

Also need to lose the 10 lbs. of the 15lbs. I lost earlier this year that I put back on this fall. I know I eat more than I need to, but I also have TSH levels that are creeping up which might be a factor. Have an appointment with my doctor right after Thanksgiving to discuss possible medication.

Tuesday Jul 30, 2013 »

6 PM

trail 43:01 [3] 2.68 mi (16:01 / mi) +95m 14:26 / mi

TNT - a really pleasant run of the meadows with first time attendee Carol. Beautiful evening for a run and we walked whenever we felt like it. And then did a bit of rogaine analysis over dinner. Nice evening.

Tuesday Jul 23, 2013 »

6 PM

trail 40:04 [3] 2.74 mi (14:36 / mi) +96m 13:11 / mi

TNT - meadow loop with Sandy. This was a plod; legs were really heavy and breathing was hard from the beginning. But we jogged the whole thing, only walking the last bit on the road.

Nice dinner with Karl afterwards.

Tuesday Jun 18, 2013 »

6 PM

running 37:29 [3] 2.75 mi (13:39 / mi) +90m 12:23 / mi
ahr:144 max:164

TNT - short hill run with Sandy in the rain. Given that I was tempted to not do anything this was a fine outing.

Karl outdid himself on the pesto tonight - yum!

Friday Jun 14, 2013 »

6 PM

trail 35:54 [3] 2.7 mi (13:18 / mi) +90m 12:03 / mi
ahr:144 max:162

A nice evening run after many hours of weeding and thinning my overgrown garden.

So the heart rate information is curious. I wonder what my max heart rate really is. Most formulas would put it in the 158 - 168 range but clearly that's a bit off.

Sunday Jun 2, 2013 »

2 PM

running 35:51 [0] 2.78 mi (12:54 / mi) +94m 11:40 / mi

Decided it was time for another one of these. Ran the whole thing so that was good. The hills don't seem that bad anymore which is really good. I am just slow which I have decided is just fine.

Felt like I started to pick it up near the end which the Garmin verifies so that is also good.

Took a long time to recover after finishing which is probably a function of the heat.

Friday Apr 19, 2013 »

11 AM

running 37:23 [0] 2.77 mi (13:30 / mi) +90m 12:15 / mi
weight:117.4lbs

Got out for a slow loop with Sandy. She was doing more but I just wanted to loosen up before the Billygoat.

I've been in a really bad mood the last couple of days and couldn't manage to do any exercising so it was good to do something today.

Sunday Mar 31, 2013 »

11 AM

running 33:45 [3] 2.81 mi (12:01 / mi) +86m 10:58 / mi
ahr:148 max:160

Started a little fast and really died at the end - working hard. Walked from the crosswalk home but ran all the hills. But a huge improvement on this loop. Sandy's training plan is paying off.

Sunday Feb 17, 2013 »

10 AM

trail 39:46 [3] 2.74 mi (14:31 / mi) +86m 13:13 / mi
ahr:142 max:158 weight:123.8lbs

Easy run of my normal loop with Sandy. Well, easy only in the sense that we kept the pace really, really slow so that we could "run" the whole loop. But we did - never stopped to walk. First time in years that I've done that.

The mantra is slow down to get faster.

Sunday Jan 20, 2013 »

1 PM

trail 35:27 [3] 2.89 mi (12:16 / mi) +110m 10:58 / mi

Well, that was interesting. It's 57 degrees outside so I decided I really had to go run my loop regardless of whether it was terribly smart. I figured I'd just walk a lot if I had to. So off I went - and it was so nice and warm and sunny - but I couldn't run up all the way on even some of the small hills and I took frequent walk breaks whenever it seemed like I was just pushing a tad too hard and so I figured the time would totally suck. I must have been going way fast when I was running is all I can think of. Yay for warm weather!!

Thursday Jan 10, 2013 »

3 PM

trail 38:00 [3] 2.88 mi (13:12 / mi) +112m 11:46 / mi

Got home from school early and decided to run the loop.

Wore headphones which I've never done before while running (only while hiking) and listened to music which I've definitely never done before (usually listen to audiobooks) and found it really helped to keep me moving.

Walked the really steep hill in the middle, a bit of the hill right before the final meadow section and from the crosswalk home.

Friday Dec 14, 2012 »

trail 39:08 [3]

Had to stop early on and adjust my brace as I was getting a knot in my calf. Although the foam roller and stick are helping they're still tight. Did 120/80 for most of it.

Saturday Dec 8, 2012 »

trail 38:48 [3]

Test loop. Ran the first 10 minutes, then ran 100 paces, walked 100 paces regardless of whether it was up or down, then ran the last bit from the tree in the meadow to the fire hydrant, walked up the block huffing and puffing.

I should borrow a forerunner sometime and see how long/short this loop really is.

Saturday Nov 24, 2012 »

Time to start this again - short hill loop. Did lots of run 150 paces, walk 100 paces just to get through it. At least it should be easy to see progress - assuming I keep at it. Won't do it in the dark though so will aim for once a week.

I should figure out how to keep a log of the times on this loop - I know it can be done so just need to remember to ask someone how to do it.
