OCIN - St Patrick's County Park & Madeline Bertrand County Park: OCIN_St_Patricks_Aug_2016_6 Red

First event on a new map near South Bend, Indiana. The map spans St Patrick's County Park in Indiana and Madeline Bertrand County Park in Michigan. A large group of cadets from the Notre Dame Army ROTC did 2 courses each. Experienced orienteers from all over attended: CAOC, ICO, OCIN, MVOC, DVOA, and SMOC. The Vladimir Zherdev map was great, as always. A large part of the course is a flat wooded grassland with subtle vegetation boundaries, and the advanced courses were quite difficult. The "ST. PATRICKS" tree letters were a particularly cool part of the navigation. Thanks to Bonnie Miller for event direction, Thurston Miller for the course setting, and the entire family for helping out where ever it was needed. We all hope this new map will be the start of a critical mass of interest that helps build a thriving orienteering community in the region.
