Race Evaluation

US Classic Champs: Blue day1

Tundra/Desert

1. The route.
2.
3. This route was probably too wide, and I was a bit too tentative given how much I simplified and how easy the destination control was.
4. I climbed unnecessarily above all the rocks just before the control. Not too much of a loss.
5.
6. Saw Patrick Shannon as he was approaching the control. Until the very last moment, I could not believe the control was mine.
7. +00:40I ran, hoping Patrick could keep up and we'd whoop up a pace like in the good old times. But I quickly ended up well ahead of him, and also well to the right of the line. I saw Mutsumi S., who was on the Red course, moving faster than I, down a trail. I realized my mistake and corrected. Was really cautious upon approach.
8. As I departed the control, I could see James coming in. My under-one-minute mistake at ControlĀ 7 added with three or so minutes of slowness and hesitation to allow James to catch up. I picked up the pace and, despite looking for the control a tad too low at first, got to the bag before James.
9. I hauled ass, going low, and got there before James.
10. I hauled ass but this one was uphill. Still, managed to stay ahead of James.
